Students have already practiced writing paragraphs. But how does an article differ from a paragraph? An article is a more advanced form of writing that can have one or more paragraphs. You could say it sits between a paragraph and an essay. Articles express the personal feelings of the writer about a specific topic, and the style should be straightforward.
1. The Purpose Of Education
Education is crucial in today's world, and all parents want their children to be educated. However, it's important to reflect on the true purpose of education. Many people believe that education is just a means to earn money and gain respect in a society that values wealth and power. But there are uneducated individuals who have made significant money and earned respect. Therefore, I think that making money and spending it is not the real goal of education.
Education should aim to improve our minds in four essential skills:
2. The Aim Of Life
I am sure every boy and girl has to encounter such questions from elderly people. They would ask a teenager, “What is your aim in life, my son ?”. To such questions, you generally reply that you want to become a doctor or an engineer or a leader, so on and so forth. Yet, think for a while. Is it the aim of life or a means of livelihood ? None of these can ever truly be the aim of life. Since many people have made their jobs their aims of life, much trouble has cropped up.
So, do not make your career your aim of life. I cannot suggest what this aim should be. All that can be said is that it should be something very high like a star in the sky. Take an example. What was Mahatma Gandhi’s aim in life ? Some of you might say that it was the freedom of India which is not true. He was a sad person on the day of India’s independence. Arundhati Roi wrote a novel, became famous and got a lot of money. Then she gave up all her time and energy to serve the poor. What is her aim? So make your own aim and live for it.
3. Drinking Water
Water is essential for our survival. We need it for cleaning, farming, and cooking. However, its most important use is for drinking. Drinking water must be clean; otherwise, it can cause diseases and even death. There are many ways to purify water, and the simplest method is to boil it before drinking. Nowadays, various water purifiers are available, but they can be costly and not everyone can afford them. It is the government's duty to provide clean drinking water to the public. The main source of this water is rain. Problems arise when there is not enough rainfall, which is why conserving rainwater has become crucial. We all need to make an effort to save drinking water.
4. Co-Education
Co-education is becoming more accepted in the country and has several advantages. Some believe it improves student performance and instills discipline. One of the greatest benefits of co-education is that it teaches students how to interact with the opposite sex. However, some people see co-education as a negative influence. They argue that in co-educational schools, students pay less attention to their studies and focus more on spending time with the opposite sex. While there is some truth to this, it mainly applies to students who join co-educational schools during their teenage years. Students who start co-education in primary school usually do not fall into this pattern.
5. Patriotism
Patriotism means love for one’s country. A patriot is ready to sacrifice everything for the love of his country. Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Bhagat Singh and Swami Vivekananda were among great patriots. It is not, however, the same thing as nationalism. A nationalist wants his country to dominate other countries. A patriot respects the rights of other nations. The nationalist says : “My country, right or wrong”. A patriot says, “My country, may she always be right”. A patriot is, therefore, a man of high character who believes in the idea of ‘Vasudhev Kutumbakam’ which means that the whole world is a family.
It has been rightly said:
“Not gold but only men can make
a nation great and strong.
Men who for truth and honour’s sake
stand fast and suffer long.”
6. The Role Of Money In Our Life
From an early age, we hear the saying: "If money is lost, nothing is lost; if health is lost, something is lost; but if character is lost, everything is lost." Yet, we witness people pursuing wealth throughout their lives, making it hard to agree with this saying. The truth is that humans are made up of body and soul. For those who don't believe in the soul, 'soul' can be replaced with 'mind.' Regarding the body, money is very important. We cannot take care of our bodies without the essentials that money provides. However, the soul or mind is equally, if not more, important. For them, great ideas and good character matter. So, while money is significant, it is not everything.
7. Saving the Environment
Our environment is like a big, shared house where we all live, and it's up to us to keep it safe and clean. But right now, our planet is in trouble because of things like pollution, deforestation, and climate change. If we don't do something about it soon, the results could be very bad. One easy way to help the environment is by making less waste. We can recycle things like paper, plastic, and glass, and try not to use things just once, like plastic bags. Planting trees is another great way to help because it makes the air better and helps fight climate change. Saving water is really important too. Simple things like turning off the tap when we don't need it and fixing leaks can save a lot of water. Using public transport or walking instead of driving can help reduce air pollution. Even small changes in what we do every day can make a big difference. Let's promise to take care of our planet, not just for ourselves but for people in the future too.
8. The Role of Sports in Our Lives
Sports are very important for keeping us healthy and happy. When we play games like cricket, football, badminton, or go for a run, we stay fit and strong. But sports are not just about being the best or winning. They teach us important things like working together as a team, being disciplined, and never giving up. Playing sports also makes us feel good and helps us deal with stress because our bodies release happy chemicals called endorphins. Sports also bring people closer. Cheering for a team with friends or family makes us feel connected. In a time when we spend a lot of time inside, playing sports lets us enjoy the outdoors and fresh air. So, whether you play just for fun or to win, being part of sports is something everyone should do.
9. The Joy of Festivals
Festivals are very important to our culture and traditions. They bring joy, unity, and a sense of togetherness among people. Whether it's Diwali, Eid, Christmas, or Pongal, every festival has its unique charm and significance. Festivals give us a break from our busy lives and allow us to spend time with family and friends. They are also a time to share happiness by exchanging gifts, preparing delicious food, and decorating our homes. More importantly, festivals remind us of our values and heritage. They teach us the importance of gratitude, kindness, and harmony. For example, Diwali symbolizes the victory of good over evil, while Christmas spreads the message of love and generosity. Let's celebrate festivals with joy and respect, cherishing the traditions that make them special.
10. The Importance of Reading Books
Reading books is one of the best habits a person can have. Books are full of knowledge, adventure, and wisdom. Whether it's stories, information, or poems, each type of book offers something special. Reading helps us improve our vocabulary and language skills. It also boosts our imagination and creativity. When we read, we enter different worlds, meet interesting characters, and go on adventures that we might not experience in real life. Books also teach us important life lessons. A story about bravery can motivate us to face our fears, and a story about kindness can inspire us to be better individuals. In today's world, where we spend a lot of time on screens, reading is a great way to relax. So, let's make reading a daily habit. As Dr. Seuss said, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Reading helps us engage with various topics that are relevant to our lives.
