Are you ready to have some fun with numbers? We will solve some interesting word problems that are all about things you might see around you — like animals at the zoo, clothes in a store, or even yummy strawberries on a farm! 

With every problem, you’ll be asked to add numbers together to find the answer. All you need is to read the problem carefully, count the things mentioned, and put the numbers together! It’s just like solving a fun puzzle.

 = 3 + 6 = 9

Q.1. This year our school went to the zoo. The zookeepers were happy to welcome us.
On the right-hand side of the zoo, there were 23 tigers, 12 elephants, 9 horses and 43 birds. How many land animals were there?

23 + 12 + 9 = 44
There were 44 land animals.

Q.2. This year our school went to the zoo. The zookeepers were happy to welcome us.
At the end of the day, the zoo cashier counted all the tickets sold. They had sold 23 adult tickets and 28 tickets for kids. Together with 2 tickets sold for senior citizens, how many tickets were sold altogether?

23 + 28 + 2 = 53
There were 53 tickets sold.

Q.3. It’s Pay Day! There is a newly-opened clothing store in town.
One dress in the store comes in 3 different sizes. There are 21 size small, 24 size medium, and 9 size large. How many dresses are there altogether?

21 + 24 + 9 = 54
There are 54 dresses altogether.

Q.4. It’s Pay Day! There is a newly-opened clothing store in town.
The store owner received a delivery from the supplier. There were 10 boxes of dresses, 13 boxes of pants, 17 boxes of skirts, and 7 boxes of buttons in the delivery. How many boxes of clothing did the store owner receive?

10 + 13 + 17 = 40
There were 40 boxes of clothing delivered.

Q.5. It’s Pay Day! There is a newly-opened clothing store in town.
Stacey listed all the brands of clothing in the store. On her list, 17 brands were for adults, 12 brands were for teens, and 8 brands were for kids. How many brands of clothing were there in the store altogether?

17 + 12 + 8 = 37
There were 37 brands of clothing in the store.

The farmer harvested 19 baskets of strawberries on Monday. His wife also harvested 14 baskets of strawberries. There were also 8 baskets harvested by visitors. How many baskets of strawberries were harvested altogether?

19 + 14 + 8 = 41
There were 41 baskets harvested.

Q.7. A strawberry farm opened to the public last week.
Jake bought one small basket of strawberries. From that basket, he used 18 strawberries for his cake. He shared 12 strawberries with his friend, and there were 5 strawberries left in the basket. How many strawberries were there in the basket in the first place?

18 + 12 + 5 = 35
There were 35 strawberries in the basket.

Q.8. A strawberry farm opened to the public last week.
The farmer made strawberry jam for extra income. He sold 28 bottles of jam at the farm, and he delivered another 12 bottles of jam to another place. There were 7 bottles of jam left on the display. How many of bottles of strawberry jam did he make altogether?

28 + 12 + 7 = 47
He made 47 bottles of strawberry jam.
