Akhil Bhartiya Ayurved Mahasammelan

Context
President of India Inaugurated the 59th Mahaadhiveshan of Akhil Bhartiya Ayurved Mahasammelan at Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

Significance of Ayurveda

  • Ayurveda can provide affordable treatment to the people.
  • Unlike other medical systems, in Ayurveda, along with healthcare, the emphasis is also given on disease prevention.
  • Given the emphasis Ayurveda lays on diet, lifestyle and even daily routine, it is a more comprehensive and holistic approach to health and wellbeing.

Government initiatives taken to promote Indian system of medicine:

  • Establishment of a separate Ministry of AYUSH in the year 2014.
  • To promote the education of Indian System of Medicines and Ayurveda globally, Ministry has signed 13 MoUs for setting up AYUSH Academic Chairs with foreign Universities/ institutes under which AYUSH experts are deputed in reputed Universities/ institutes to undertake teaching/ training / research activities.
  • International Day of Yoga is celebrated in 190 countries and Ayurveda day is celebrated in more than 35 countries. The Ministry has been organizing   International Yoga Conference every year since 2015.
  • Government of India is implementing Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM) in the country through State and UT governments for promotion and development of AYUSH systems.

Recommendations:

  • While conserving the traditional knowledge of Ayurveda, emphasis should also be laid on research and investigation for certification and quality. There is the need to stick to the scientific test and modify the technical parameters according to the needs of the present times.
  • There is the need to remove policy constraints and increase awareness among the general public about Ayurveda.

Researchers should work towards research, documentation and validation in new areas of treatment and epidemiology of diseases.

PM CARES For Children Scheme

Context
The Indian Prime Minister is scheduled to release benefits under the PM CARES for Children Scheme.

Background

  • PM CARES for Children Scheme was launched in 2021 to support children who have lost both the parents or legal guardian or adoptive parents or surviving parent to Covid-19 pandemic.
  • The Scheme sought to ensure comprehensive care and protection of children by providing health Insurance, Education and Financial Support till they attain the Age of 23 Years. The children would be provided boarding and lodging, scholarships, financial support of Rs. 10 lakh on attaining 23 years of age and also health insurance.

Details

  • Prime Minister will transfer scholarships to school going children.

A passbook of PM CARES for Children, and health card under Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana will also be handed over to the children.

Shakti B

Context

  • The Ministry of Power has asked the Central Electricity Authority of India to determine the eligible quantity of domestic coal for power plants using coal under Shakti B taking into account 10% imported coal for blending.
  • Given the large-scale shortage of domestic coal supplies, the Power Ministry had advised all generators to blend 10% of imported coal for power generation.

Shakti B

  • Shakti B is the window for power plants having untied capacity to bid for coal, to generate power using this coal and sell it in the exchange under Day Ahead Market (DAM) or the DEEP portal.
  • DEEP (Discovery of Efficient Electricity Price) is a e-Bidding and e-Reverse auction portal for procurement of short-term power by DISCOMs. The web portal seeks to ensure seamless flow of power from seller to buyer.
