NTSE shortened for National Talent Search Exam is a national-level exam organized every year. The National Council of Educational Research and Training is the responsible authority for conducting this exam. This exam is basically formulated to find eligible candidates for national-level scholarship programs. Only the students studying in class 10th will be eligible to appear for this exam. NTSE is organized once a year in two stages i.e. Stage I and Stage II.

  • Stage I examination is conducted at the state level by all the states and Union Territories of India. 
  • Whereas Stage II exam is conducted at the National level and the only Stage I qualified candidates will be able to take part in the Stage II exam. 
  • The students who will qualify for both the Stages i.e. Stage-I and Stage-I will be rewarded the Scholarship. Moreover, the scholarship will be given based on the overall performance of students in Stage-I and Stage-II. 
  • The application form for the NTSE exam needs to be filled in online mode and the examination will be held in offline mode.

The NCERT organizes the National Talent Search Examination for students studying in Class X with the objective to bring up the ability of students. This exam is conducted every year at two levels; Stage-1, which is conducted at the state level and Stage-2, at the national level. The NTSE important dates 2024 will be announced by NCERT for aspiring and eligible candidates.

  • NTSE 2024 Registration Dates- The last dates to submit the NTSE 2024 Application vary from state to state.
  • NTSE Exam Dates 2024 - The exam dates for Stage 1 of NTSE 2024 exam and Stage 2 exam will be announced later.
  • NTSE Admit Card 2024 Dates - SCERTs or Education departments will tentatively issue the stage 1 admit card a week before the exam, while the stage 2 admit card will be issued by NCERT around two or four weeks before the exam.
    Students can either download the admit card online or can collect the same in offline mode from their schools or from the State Liaison Officer. The NTSE admit card for stage 2 is only allotted to the ones who are shortlisted for the Stage-1 exam.
  • NTSE Result 2024 Dates- The results of NTS exam are published by SCERT on their official websites in online mode. The stage 1 results and stage 2 results are announced respectively after 1-2 months

Eligibility Requirements

  • Age Limit: All the students who are pursuing the 10th-grade exam can apply for this exam. Apart from this, the NTSE exam eligibility is for the student who is less than 18 years on the first of July of that particular year.
  • Nationality: A student must be of Indian Nationality. The Indian origin students who live abroad are also eligible for the exam.

  • NCERT conducts the NTSE exam in two-stage.
    Stage 1 is a state-wise exam and once a student clears the exam they automatically become eligible for stage 2 exam, which is a national level exam.
    Students who are from Indian origin and live abroad are directly eligible for stage 2 exam.

  • Reservation of Seats: Some percentages of the seats are reserved for the students who are SC/ST/PWD by NCERT. Students who live abroad can also claim for the seats if they fall into the category of NTSE eligibility for reserved seats.
    For Scheduled Caste, the reserved seat is 15%
    For Scheduled Tribes, the reserved seat is 7.5%
    For Person with Disability, the reserved seat is 3%.

  • Eligibility Criteria For NTSE
    Following are the eligibility criteria for NTSE.
    Aspirant of NTSE must be a student of class 10th.
    The minimum required academic percentage for the students is 60% (for general category) and 55% (for SC/ ST/PWD) in their 9th class.
    Candidate must not be reappearing for class 10th.
    Students who are studying through distance mode education and open learning are also eligible for the exam.
    Students can give the stage 1 exam from their respective states.

NTSE Exam Application Process

  • Eligible candidates can fill NTSE Application form both offline and online mode. For offline mode, the application form will be distributed separately by different states.

  • The candidate must ensure to take a print of the form using 8.5” * 14” size paper while downloading the form.
  • The application form that is available online/ offline only by State/ UT liaison officer will be applicable for the Stage 1 exam.
  • The candidate will have to leave the 4- digit center code blank in the form as it will be filled by the liaison officer or center superintendent or concerned district officer.

Application Fee

  • The application fee for Stage I will depend on the different states and union territories.
  • There is no application charge for Stage-II NTSE Exam.
