The very fact that Mahatma Gandhi’s ideas still awaken the spirits of thought and debate is a clear testimony to their relevance even in today's society. The principles, goals, and action plans he proposed for a complete social transformation will always be relevant. The ideas, ideals program and the action programme proposed by him, for a total social transformation, can never lose their relevance. The entire world is now a global village, moving towards the challenges posted by intolerance and fundamentalism. This is where education comes to rescue leading in a role to prevent terrorism and maintain peace in the global world. Education is a basic obligation that helps imbibe the values of national integration, international understanding and the concept of world citizenship in fostering & keeping peace. At all educational levels, sincere programs that change how people think and act in opposition to violence and terrorism should be made available.
Education vitally helps develop inner peace, which in turn nurtures the virtues of tolerance and love. Education helps to avoid violence of every nature, be it physical, social, or structural. It can also help to understand the nature and origins of violence and its effects on both the victim and the convict and equip them with problem solving skills. However, being a witness to the horrors of the two world wars, there is a re-awakening to the need to develop the human side of education, partially if not completely. Gandhi was one of them, with his loud and tireless endeavor for nonviolence. His theory will lead to a more tranquil society where everyone acts as a change agent by fostering healthy values and attitudes.
