India's vision towards the Olympic Games - Progress on youth sports participation

Tokyo 2020 has turned out to be an Olympics of many firsts for India. It was exciting to watch how our athletes competed in various sports, whether they won or lost, because it takes tremendous courage and tenacity to perform at these levels when you are not from a country where sports are a way of life and where excellence is not taken for granted. It was thrilling to see how our sportspeople competed in different disciplines - won or lost - because it takes magnanimous courage and resilience to perform at these levels, too, when you don't come from a nation where sports is a culture and where performance is not an everyday attitude.
Each medal was a triumph against difficult odds. All that is left for us to think about right now is whether we will be able to place in the top 10 at the Olympics by 2040. Persistent pressure from the public and the media must be exerted on the government in order to accomplish this, which calls for persistent pressure from the public and the media.
Sporting talent needs systematic nurturing and backing, without which sportspersons can sustain themselves with their basic training requirements. This happens to be the reason why successful athletes are given jobs in PSUs or in the police by the government—Mirabai Chanu has already been inducted as the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Manipur, while Neeraj Chopra has been offered a Class-I government job by the Govt. of Haryana. On various occasions, private players like Tata Motors and JSW have also tied up with athletes and teams. Indian athletes, unfortunately, are more experienced than their coaches. Athletes get exposure, but coaches do not. Coaches must refresh their knowledge every six months. Everything, including coaching-related skills, is changing. Like technology, effective coaches should stay current. The government has, on various occasions, encouraged individuals to give importance to sports and games in their everyday lives. Schemes like the Fit India Movement, Khelo India, and TOP are doing their fair share to promote and encourage sports in India.
