Raising concern on e-waste, how it impacts the global climate policy? Explain the waste management policy

Haven’t we heard of the island of trash known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch? Yes! It floats between California and Hawaii and is bigger in size than the entire state of Texas. And, this is not the only world,The world in total has five such floating islands of trash that weigh more than 80,000 tonnes. The amount of electronic garbage being produced globally is posing serious environmental and health risks. The Global e-waste monitor reported 59 tons of e-waste and estimated that it is expected to rise to more than 80 tons by 2030. Only the techno-biggies are not responsible! Even a non- techie generates about 7 kg of e-waste. Every gadget has a shelf-life so it is not right to play the blame game. But this is not enough to ward off the concerns. Children, expectant women, teenagers, etc. exposed to thousands of dangerous compounds while working at these dumping sites.
There are various measures that are being taken in order to curb the jeopardizing effects but can they be effective without the individual citizens’ understanding of the severity of the matter? The basic mindset that a crisis is needed to bring about a policy change is paralyzed. It is to be kept in mind that waste management is essential because not all the waste that is generated is recycled. A lot of steps have been taken by the government in the recent years like the segregation of garbage waste is being practiced in towns and cities where the public is being provided with the required infrastructure and awareness by the civic bodies. Door-to-door collection of waste has become a reality in most of the towns and cities of the country. Community bins have been placed and are being maintained. Many cities have their own waste management plants set up. The only bottleneck is that there is an absence of a long-term action plan. The states should prepare state level action plans like the national action plan to make the target achievable.
