You should say:

  • What the event is
  • Where it will be held
  • What you will do at this event
  • And explain why you’re looking forward to this family event

Sample Answer:

  • Diwali is the largest celebration in India, and it is a festival of light and togetherness. Every year, I look forward to celebrating Diwali with my Punjabi family. It also happens to be the largest festival and family gathering event for us since all my family members get together and spend time in my grandparent’s house.
  • Every year, we make it a point to get together at my grandparents’ place to celebrate Diwali. We were unable to meet and celebrate this festival as a group due to Covid. As a result, this year, we decided to make the stay a bit longer. My paternal uncle and aunt are flying from Australia to join us on this auspicious Diwali occasion. I, too, am based in Bangalore for work and want to pay a visit to my grandparents and other family members during the celebration. My parents will also be flying in from Delhi. I’m also looking forward to seeing all of my family members, especially my cousins and grandparents, who I don’t get to see very often during the year.
  • This year, I want to get gifts for my cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents, etc. I’ll also decorate the house with lights and flowers, assist my grandparents with the necessary shopping for the ceremonies, and spend the days with my cousins performing various fun activities. I also want to play monopoly with everyone and engage in extensive chit-chat while eating the delectable fare. Additionally, this is the one time of year when my entire family comes together. Therefore, I’m looking forward to seeing everyone after a two-year hiatus and thoroughly enjoying this family gathering.

Follow-ups
Q1: Why do you think family events are important?
Ans:
Family events are important because they provide an opportunity for family members to bond, share experiences, and create lasting memories together. These events strengthen the family unit and allow everyone to reconnect, especially in today’s busy world where everyone is often occupied with work or studies.

Q2: What are some common family events that people usually celebrate?
Ans:
Some common family events include birthdays, weddings, family reunions, and festivals. These events give families a reason to come together, celebrate their cultural traditions, and enjoy each other's company. Each family has its unique set of traditions and events that they celebrate based on their culture and values.

Q3: How do you think family events affect relationships within the family?
Ans:
Family events can have a positive impact on relationships within the family. They create moments of shared joy, which help strengthen emotional bonds. It gives family members a chance to communicate, understand each other better, and support one another, leading to stronger, healthier relationships.

Q4: Do you think it is better to celebrate family events with a large group or a small group of family members?
Ans:
It depends on the event and the preferences of the family. Some people enjoy celebrating with a large group because it brings more energy and excitement, while others prefer smaller gatherings for a more intimate and personal experience. I think both types of celebrations have their own charm, but a smaller group often allows for more meaningful interactions and personal attention.
