COP27 (Conference of Parties)

India Pavilion inaugurated at the 27th session of Conference of Parties of  the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change).

About

  • The Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt is hosting the 27th session of the COP27  of the UNFCCC with a view to build on previous success and paving the way for future ambition to effectively tackle the global challenge of climate change.
  • In the ceremonial opening of COP27, Egypt took over COP presidency from the UK.
  • COP27 is to ensure full implementation of the Paris Agreement. According to the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, CO2 emissions need to be cut 45% by 2030, compared to 2010 levels to meet the central Paris Agreement goal of limiting temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius by the end of this century.

  • India Pavilion at COP27 was inaugurated by Shri Bupendra Yadav-the Union Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
  • LiFE – Life Style for Environment is the theme at India Pavilion COP27. LiFE is a pro-people and pro-planet effort that seeks to shift the world from mindless and wasteful consumption to mindful and deliberate utilisation of natural resources. The LiFE Movement is a global initiative for ensuring sustainable lifestyle of human beings and protecting the planet.

  • The Pavilion has been designed to send out the message of LiFE through various audio-visuals, 3D models, logo, decor, set up and side events.
  • Mission LiFE is designed with the objective to mobilise at least one billion Indians and other global citizens to take individual and collective action for protecting and preserving the environment in the period 2022 to 2027. Within India, at least 80% of all villages and urban local bodies are aimed to become environment-friendly by 2028.

A two day vibrant performance of dance drama- ‘Yugpurush’ based on the life of Raja Rammohun Roy at Kartavya Path.

Details

  • The Ministry of Culture, GoI launched a year long celebrations on May 22, 2022 on the occasion of the 250th birth anniversary of Raja Rammohun Roy.
  • Carrying forward the year long celebrations of Raja Rammohun Roy’s birth anniversary, “Yugpurush ” was a theatrical dance performance on the ideals of Raja Rammohun Roy. 

About  Raja Rammohum Roy

  • Raja Rammohum Roy is called the father of Modern India and  Father of the Bengal Renaissance. 
  • He was born on May 22, 1772 in Radhanagar, Bengal.
  • He played a remarkable role in the religious, social and political reforms. He was the founder of Brahmo Samaj and promoted modern and scientific approach.
