IFFI (International Film Festival of India)- 53rd Edition

Context
75 youngsters (18 – 35 years of age), will get to attend the 53rd edition of International Film Festival of India as special guests, as part of the ‘75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’ initiative of the Government.

About “75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow”-

  • ‘75 Creative minds of tomorrow’ aims to recognise and foster a community of young and passionate film-makers (18-35 years of age) from across the country. It was launched in 2021 and is now an annual talent enrichment segment of IFFI.
  • The Creative Minds of Tomorrow initiative is the brainchild of the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Youth Affairs and sports, Anurag Singh Thakur. 

Details

  • 75 winners have been selected through a selection process involving screening by the Selection Jury and then final selection by the Grand Jury.
  • The promising cinematic talents of tomorrow hail from 19 different states of India. The 75 youngsters have been selected based on their excellence in different areas of film-making viz, direction, editing, cinematography, playback singing, music composition, art design and animation, visual effects (VFX), virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).
  • Maximum number of winning artists hail from Maharashtra (23), followed by Tamil Nadu (9) and Delhi (6).
  • The 75 winners will join the celebrations of IFFI and attend workshops curated by the grandmasters of International cinema. They will also get the opportunity to witness the business of cinema at Film Bazaar, a platform to encourage collaboration between South Asian and international film communities. 

About IFFI

  • Founded in 1952, IFFI has now emerged as one of the prominent film festivals in Asia.
  • The annual festival offers a platform to all the cinephiles and creators across the globe to showcase their work and talent, engage with film cultures of various nations and promote understanding of the social and cultural ethos of world cinema.
  • The festival is conducted every year by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India in collaboration with the Entertainment Society of Goa, Government of Goa, the host state.

LSDGs in Gram Panchayats

Context
A three day National  workshop on LSDGs in Gram Panchayats.

Details

  • A three day National Workshop on LSDGs in Gram Panchayats through adopting thematic approaches: Theme 1 – Poverty Free and Enhanced Livelihood Gram Panchayats is being organised at CIAL, Convention Centre, Kochi, Kerala.
  • The workshop aims to create awareness on the national level importance of addressing-
    • Marginalisation – inclusion and access to basic services, social safety nets and protection systems – leveraging National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme MGNREGA and National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) through Panchayats.
    • Livelihoods –  the role of Panchayats in addressing income inequality & poverty, eradicating extreme poverty and improving employment opportunities for poor, vulnerable and marginalised sections, and
    • Building resilience of vulnerable communities against the sudden shocks brought about by disasters and extreme climate events.
  • Around 1500 participants are expected to attend the National Workshop.
  • The workshop will adopt a three fold process – video presentations, group/panel discussions and field visits. 

About  SDGs-

  • SDGs adopted by the United Nations came into effect from January 1, 2016.
  • The Ministry of Panchayat Raj has adopted thematic approach to SDGs- it aims to ensure ‘local action’ for ‘global plan’. 
  • The approach aims to localise SDGs in rural areas through PRIs (Panchayat Raj Institutions), particularly Gram Panchayats by clubbing 17 goals into 9 themes.
