- Our society is still divided on the basis of caste.
- Cleaning, swiping, etc., are looked down upon and the communities doing it are exploited.
- Gandhiji gave equal status to each job and taught us to show respect to each and every one.
- Gandhiji also said that every person should do all kinds of work.

- Only the people of a particular community do the jobs of cleaning sewers and garbage.
- They are forced to work such jobs from their early twenties and they don’t get the chance of any higher education because of financial problems.
- From early times these kinds of jobs are being done by the people of certain communities and they are not allowed to do any other kind of jobs.

- In early times the toilets used to be holes under which baskets were kept.
- In Gandhi Ji’s Sabarmati Ashram, everyone had to clean their own toilet. Everyone was responsible for carrying the basket to the compost pit and emptying it there. No one, not even the guests, was excused from this task.
- Gandhiji believed everyone should do all kinds of work and cleaning the toilets is not a shameful job.
- The people who do the cleaning jobs are considered untouchables in society.
- Gandhi along with his pupils from his ashram used to visit villages to clean the toilets.
- Gandhi believed that to learn something is like learning a lesson and no job is big or small, even the job of cleaning toilets.
