Level 1

Accommodate 

  • Accommodate means to make adjustments to suit someone or something.
  • Example: The restaurant was able to accommodate our large party.

Barometer

Barometer: A scientific instrument used to measure air pressure in a certain environment.

Example: The barometer showed a steady drop in air pressure, signaling a possible storm.

Crave

  • Crave: To have an intense desire or craving for something.
  • Example: After working all day, he craved a cold beer.

Deploy

  • Deploy: To put (something, such as a plan, strategy, or personnel) into effect.
  • Example: The company deployed a new marketing strategy to target potential customers.

Hoax

  • Hoax: a deceptive act intended to trick or fool someone.
  • Example: An email was sent out to employees warning of a new company policy, but it turned out to be a hoax.

Modify

  • Modify: to make changes to something in order to improve it or adapt it to different conditions.
  • Example: The company had to modify its delivery schedule due to increased customer demand.

Resourceful

  • Resourceful means to be creative and inventive in finding solutions to problems.
  • Example: The resourceful student was able to use the materials in the room to build a model of a bridge.

Attest

  • Attest means to certify or confirm the truth or accuracy of something.
  • Example: The lawyer attested to the authenticity of the document.

Component

  • Component: A part or element of a larger whole.
  • Example: The components of a car include the engine, wheels, and body.

Irrelevant

  • Irrelevant: not connected to or having an effect on the subject being discussed or considered.
  • Example: The speaker went off on a tangent and started talking about irrelevant topics.

Murky

  • Murky means dark, unclear, or thick with suspended particles.
  • Example: The murky pond water was filled with leaves and other debris.

Evaluate

  • Evaluate: to examine and judge the value or condition of (something)
  • Example: The teacher evaluated each student's work on the project.

Deem

  • Deem means to consider or judge something to be.
  • Example: The judge deemed the defendant guilty of the crime.

Level 2

Abortive

  • Abortive means unsuccessful or fruitless.
  • Example: The abortive attempt to launch the new product failed due to a lack of resources.

Fallacious

  • Fallacious: (adjective) containing a fallacy or error in reasoning; misleading.
  • Example: The fallacious argument that the economy will improve if taxes are cut is based on incorrect assumptions.

Impeccable

  • Impeccable means to be faultless or perfect.
  • Example: The chef's presentation of the meal was impeccable.

Fraught 

  • Fraught means filled with or attended with something (usually something unpleasant or troublesome).
  • Example: The meeting was fraught with tension as both sides argued their points.

Enigma

  • Enigma: A puzzling or inexplicable occurrence; a mystery. 
  • Example: The disappearance of Amelia Earhart remains an enigma to this day.

Gullible

  • Gullible: Easily deceived or duped.
  • Example: The con artist was able to take advantage of the gullible tourist and steal her money.

Inherent 

  • Inherent: existing as a natural part of something or as an inseparable element.
  • Example: Leadership skills are an inherent quality of a successful manager.

Manifold

  • Manifold means having many different forms or aspects. 
  • Example: The manifold problems of global poverty can’t be solved with a single solution.

Romp

  • Romp means to move, run, or play about in a lively, boisterous manner.
  • Example: The children were romping around the playground.

Spontaneous

  • Spontaneous: happening or arising without apparent external cause; unplanned or unpredictable.
  • Example: We decided to have a spontaneous picnic in the park.

Latent

  • Latent means something that is not immediately obvious or visible, but that may become evident in the future. 
  • Example: The latent potential of the new technology was only revealed after months of testing.

Perpetrate

  • Perpetrate means to commit a crime or offense. 
  • Example: The thief was caught trying to perpetrate a burglary.

Level 3

Assiduous

  • Assiduous means showing great care, diligence, and perseverance.
  • Example: Joe was an assiduous student, always working hard to get the best grades possible.

Buff

  • Buff: (adj.) having a smooth, strong, and healthy appearance.
  • Example: The fitness instructor had a buff body with well-defined muscles.

Veneer

  • Veneer is a thin layer of material applied to a surface to give it a more attractive look. It is usually made of wood, but can also be made of metal or plastic. 
  • Example: The kitchen cabinet had a veneer of cherry wood applied to it, giving it a more luxurious appearance.

Tortuous

  • Tortuous means full of twists and turns.
  • Example: The tortuous road to the mountain summit was full of sharp turns and switchbacks.

Peregrination

  • Peregrination means a journey or wander, especially a long or meandering one.
  • Example: Our family enjoyed a yearlong peregrination across Europe.

Labyrinth

  • Labyrinth: a complicated irregular network of passages or paths in which it is difficult to find one’s way; a maze.
  • Example: She wandered through the labyrinth of winding paths, unsure of where she was going.

Innate

  • Innate: (adjective) existing in one from birth; inborn.
  • Example: He has an innate talent for playing the piano.

Consummate

  • Consummate means to complete something to perfection or to bring something to the highest level of excellence.
  • Example: The chef's cooking was truly consummate; every dish was cooked to perfection.

Concoct

  • Concoct: To devise or invent something by careful planning and delicate manipulation.
  • Example: She had to concoct a plan to save their failing business.

Conjugal

  • Conjugal is an adjective that describes something related to marriage or spouses, such as conjugal rights or a conjugal relationship.
  • Example: The couple enjoyed many years of conjugal bliss.

Exult

  • Exult is a verb that means to show or feel a great amount of joy or triumph.
  • Example: The team exalted as they won the championship game.

Itinerant

  • Itinerant means traveling from place to place, usually to work or preach.
  • Example: The itinerant preacher traveled around the countryside, spreading the gospel to all who would listen.

Myriad 

  • Myriad means a large number or an immense quantity.
  • There are myriad stars in the night sky.

Subterfuge

  • Subterfuge means devious or cunning behavior used to achieve a result or evade a situation. 
  • Example: He tried to use subterfuge to avoid paying the bill, but we eventually caught him out.

Urbane

  • Urbane means having the polish and suavity regarded as characteristic of sophisticated social life in major cities.
  • His urbane manner
