For the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Foreign Service, and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India.
For other services, a candidate must be either:
A candidate must hold a Graduate degree from any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification.
Every candidate appearing at the examination, who is otherwise eligible, shall be permitted six (6) attempts at the CSE. However, relaxation in the number of attempts will be available to the SC/ST/OBC and PwBD category candidates who are otherwise eligible. The number of attempts available to such candidates as per relaxation is as under:
Every year Union Public Services Commission conducts CSE to recruit candidates for various civil services posts. The UPSC CSE application starts around February-March of every year. The post of Cabinet Secretary is the highest post that can an IAS Officer at the Union level. The Cabinet Secretary is the head of the Civil Services Board, and the leader of all the civil servants in the country. The salary of the Cabinet Secretary is INR 2,50,000.
Their initial role is as an assistant collector cum sub-district magistrate and they are placed in charge of a district sub-division.
The salary of an IAS officer varies depending on their rank and level of experience. As per the 7th Pay Commission, the starting salary of an entry-level IAS officer is around Rs. 56,100 per month. This includes a basic pay of Rs. 15,600 and a grade pay of Rs. 5,400.
