Introduction
In this puzzle, we are given five pieces of chain, each consisting of three links. We have to make one long chain of these five pieces. We are also given the cost of breaking open a link and welding an open link. We have to find out if it is possible to make one long chain of the five pieces, if we have just 15 Rs.
Solution
To solve this puzzle, we need to follow the given steps:
Step 1: Break open all three links of chain 1. It will cost us 1x3=3 Rs.
Step 2: Take one open link and use it to connect chain 2 and 3. It will cost us 3 Rs.
Step 3: Take another open link and use it to connect chain 3 and 4. It will cost us 3 Rs.
Step 4: Take the third open link and use it to connect chain 4 and 5. It will cost us 3 Rs.
Result
By following the above steps, we have successfully made one long chain of the five pieces. We have spent a total of 3+3+3+3=12 Rs to make the long chain. Therefore, it is possible to make one long chain of the five pieces, if we have just 15 Rs.
