What are Bacteria

Bacteria, which are single-celled microorganisms, can be found in a wide range of environments across the Earth, making them ubiquitous prokaryotes. They are capable of thriving in extreme conditions, such as acidic hot springs, areas with radioactive waste, and even the deep recesses of the Earth's crust. Bacteria have the ability to form dense colonies by attaching to surfaces, resulting in the formation of biofilms, which are mat-like structures.

What is a Virus

Viruses are particles that are classified as non-living entities. They lack the ability to respire or metabolize. A virus is composed of genetic material, either DNA or RNA, enclosed within a protein core. Typically, viruses are infectious agents that depend on a host organism for their replication. They have the capability to infect a wide range of life forms, including animals, plants, bacteria, and archaea. Viruses can be found in nearly every ecosystem on Earth, making them the most prevalent biological entities. The scientific discipline dedicated to the study of viruses is known as virology. Negative staining is a technique commonly employed to visualize viruses.
