Uber collaborates with GeM Portal to Provide Taxi Services to Government Offices and Agencies

Uber, the popular cab aggregator, has joined forces with the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal to offer taxi services to government ministries, departments, agencies, and public sector units (PSUs) at a fixed price. This partnership aims to provide corporate services to personnel working in various government entities. Initially, the service has been launched on a pilot basis and will gradually be made available to all government ministers, departments, agencies, and PSUs. 
Uber will ensure that the service is offered at a fixed price, eliminating cancellation charges and surge pricing. By registering with the GeM portal, Uber aims to bring transparency to government procurement processes.

HS Prannoy Clinches Maiden BWF World Tour Title at Malaysia Masters 2023

HS Prannoy, the talented Indian badminton player ranked 9th in the BWF rankings, secured his first BWF World Tour title by defeating Weng Hong Yang from the People's Republic of China. In a thrilling match, Prannoy displayed exceptional skills and resilience, winning 21-19, 13-21, 21-18. This victory marks a significant milestone in Prannoy's career, as it is his first men's singles title in over six years. Previously, he had won the 2017 US Open, which was part of the BWF Grand Prix. Ujjwal Pal converted three penalty corners (6', 38', 47'), while Rahul Yadav (30'), Ketan Kushwaha (39'), Rahul Rajhbar (52'), and team captain Ajeet Yadav (54') also contributed with goals. Deonath Nanwar scored the only goal for the Hockey Association of Odisha. In the 3rd/4th place match, Hockey Haryana secured a 4-2 comeback win over Hockey Madhya Pradesh.

Creating history, the Indian Women's Volleyball team emerged victorious in the NSC CAVA Women's Volleyball Challenge Cup 2023. This triumph marks the first time that the Indian senior women's volleyball team has won the tournament. They achieved this feat by defeating Kazakhstan in the final match held in Kathmandu, Nepal. This impressive victory marks Verstappen's fourth win of the season and extends his lead in the Drivers' Championship by 39 points. The race took place under wet conditions, providing Verstappen with an opportunity to showcase his exceptional skills. He started strongly and quickly established a significant lead over the other competitors.
Verstappen maintained his composure throughout the race, ultimately securing a comfortable victory. Fernando Alonso finished second, followed by Esteban Ocon in third place. However, Charles Leclerc retired from the race due to a collision with Carlos Sainz.

SpaceX Successfully Launches Arabsat BADR-8 Telecommunication Satellite

SpaceX, the renowned space exploration technologies corporation, successfully launched the Arabsat BADR-8 telecommunication satellite for Arabsat. Weighing nearly five tons, this satellite aims to provide TV and video broadcast services across the Middle East. SpaceX delayed the launch by over an hour to wait for subsiding winds before fueling the Falcon 9 rocket.
The launch, which took place from Florida's Space Coast, marked SpaceX's 36th flight of the year and the 26th orbital launch attempt in 2023. The Badr-8 satellite, built by Airbus Defense and Space, will replace the capacity offered by the aging Badr 6 satellite in geostationary orbit. It will offer C-band and Ku-band communications services.

CAG Girish Chandra Murmu Re-elected External Auditor of WHO

Girish Chandra Murmu, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, has been re-elected as the external auditor of the World Health Organization (WHO) for a four-year term from 2024 to 2027. Murmu has already held this position since 2019 and has been recognized for his professionalism, high standards, global audit experience, and strong national credentials.
His re-election took place during the 76th World Health Assembly in Geneva, where he secured an overwhelming majority of votes (114 out of 156) in the first round. The role of the external auditor is to audit the financial statements and operations of WHO, providing an independent and objective opinion on its financial matters.

• World Multiple Sclerosis Day: World Multiple Sclerosis Day is observed annually on May 30th to raise awareness about Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and support individuals living with this autoimmune disease. MS affects the central nervous system, leading to various symptoms such as fatigue, muscle weakness, numbness, headaches, and difficulties with coordination and balance. The Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF) declared May 30th as World Multiple Sclerosis Day in 2009 to promote awareness and solidarity among the global MS community. The theme for 2020–2023 is "Connections," emphasizing the importance of building community connections, personal connections, and connections to high-quality care.
• Goa Statehood Day: Goa, the smallest state in India, celebrates its statehood day on May 30th. This day marks the anniversary of Goa gaining statehood in 1987. Previously a Portuguese territory, Goa was conquered by Alfonso de Albuquerque in 1510 and remained under Portuguese rule for 400 years. In December 1962, Goa was liberated by India. Goa is renowned for its beautiful beaches and rich architectural heritage. It is often referred to as "Gomantak" in Sanskrit and holds historical significance.
