Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas will be honored with the prestigious Palme d'Or at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. The veteran actor, known for his remarkable career spanning over five decades, will be recognized for his significant contribution to cinema. Michael Douglas, 78 years old, has delivered outstanding performances in films like "Fatal Attraction" (1987), "Wall Street" (1987), and "Basic Instinct" (1992). The festival organizers have announced a special tribute to Douglas during the opening ceremony on May 16. As part of the tribute, a previously unreleased documentary titled "Michael Douglas, The Prodigal Son" will be screened at the festival site from May 14 to May 16.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has laid the foundation stone for the Vizag Tech Park, a subsidiary of the Adani Group, in Visakhapatnam. The tech park, which will cover a 190-acre parcel of land, will include 300 megawatt (MW) data centers. The project will consist of a 200 MW integrated data center at Madhurwada and another 100 MW center at Kapuluppada, with an investment of ₹14,634 crore and ₹7,210 crore, respectively.
Over the course of seven years, the tech park is expected to provide direct employment to 39,815 individuals and indirect employment to 10,610 more. In addition to the data centers, the tech park will feature IT business parks, skill development centers, and recreation facilities, enhancing internet speeds and connectivity. Chief Minister Reddy emphasized that the tech park will contribute to the overall development of the region and propel Vizag into a tier-1 city, utilizing renewable sources of energy for its operations.

Union Minister Nityanand Rai inaugurated the Dawki Land Port in Meghalaya's West Jaintia Hills district, aimed at boosting trade and commerce between India and Bangladesh. The Dawki Land Port, situated 55 km from the district headquarters, Jowai, and approximately 84 km from Shillong, Meghalaya's capital, will serve as a crucial trade and transportation hub between the two countries.
It will facilitate the movement of goods, people, and vehicles across the border, including passenger movement. During his visit, Minister Nityanand Rai also interacted with field commanders and troops at the Meghalaya Frontier of the Border Security Force (BSF) and discussed the challenges and measures being taken to control trans-border crime.
Polavarapu Mallikharjuna Prasad is poised to become the chairman and managing director of Coal India Limited after receiving the nod from the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB). Prasad currently serves as the chairman cum managing director of Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL) in Ranchi. Out of the seven candidates shortlisted and interviewed for the position, Prasad emerged as a top contender. He is a mining engineer from Osmania University and has more than three decades of experience in the mining sector.
Prasad played a pivotal role in unlocking coal reserves of 26 million tonnes (MT) in FY15 by diverting the Nallah at Hingula opencast area and initiating the construction of a new railway siding at Talcher Coalfields. Prasad previously held the position of CMD at Bharat Coking Coal (BCCL) in August 2019. Both CCL and BCCL are subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. Prasad will succeed Pramod Agrawal, the current CMD, whose term concludes on June 30, 2023.
Buddha Purnima, also known as Vesak or Buddha Jayanti, is an auspicious festival celebrated in the Buddhist calendar. It falls on the full moon day of the month of Vaisakha and commemorates the birth of Lord Gautam Buddha, who was born as Prince Siddhartha Gautam in Lumbini (now in present-day Nepal) around 563 BC. The celebration in Bihar takes place with great religious fervor and joy, particularly at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya, where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment under the sacred Bodhi tree.
