Michael Douglas to Receive Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival 2023

Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas will be honored with the prestigious Palme d'Or at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. The veteran actor, known for his remarkable career spanning over five decades, will be recognized for his significant contribution to cinema. Michael Douglas, 78 years old, has delivered outstanding performances in films like "Fatal Attraction" (1987), "Wall Street" (1987), and "Basic Instinct" (1992). The festival organizers have announced a special tribute to Douglas during the opening ceremony on May 16. As part of the tribute, a previously unreleased documentary titled "Michael Douglas, The Prodigal Son" will be screened at the festival site from May 14 to May 16.

Andhra Pradesh CM Inaugurates Vizag Tech Park

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has laid the foundation stone for the Vizag Tech Park, a subsidiary of the Adani Group, in Visakhapatnam. The tech park, which will cover a 190-acre parcel of land, will include 300 megawatt (MW) data centers. The project will consist of a 200 MW integrated data center at Madhurwada and another 100 MW center at Kapuluppada, with an investment of ₹14,634 crore and ₹7,210 crore, respectively.
Over the course of seven years, the tech park is expected to provide direct employment to 39,815 individuals and indirect employment to 10,610 more. In addition to the data centers, the tech park will feature IT business parks, skill development centers, and recreation facilities, enhancing internet speeds and connectivity. Chief Minister Reddy emphasized that the tech park will contribute to the overall development of the region and propel Vizag into a tier-1 city, utilizing renewable sources of energy for its operations.

Logo and Mascot of Khelo India University Games 2022 Launched in Lucknow

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur, along with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, unveiled the logo, jersey, mascot, torch, and anthem of the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2022 in Lucknow. The third edition of the Khelo India University Games will take place from May 23 to June 3, with the opening ceremony scheduled for May 25 at the Babu Banarasi Das University in Lucknow.
Anurag Singh Thakur expressed his belief that Uttar Pradesh is progressing in all fields and will play a major role in fulfilling the Prime Minister's vision of making India a sports superpower. The Khelo India University Games will witness the participation of over 4,700 athletes from 200 universities across the country, competing in 21 different sports disciplines. Chief Minister Adityanath highlighted the government's efforts to develop stadiums and sports facilities at various levels, aiming to provide opportunities for sports at the grassroots level.

Nityanand Rai Inaugurates Dawki Land Port in Meghalaya

Union Minister Nityanand Rai inaugurated the Dawki Land Port in Meghalaya's West Jaintia Hills district, aimed at boosting trade and commerce between India and Bangladesh. The Dawki Land Port, situated 55 km from the district headquarters, Jowai, and approximately 84 km from Shillong, Meghalaya's capital, will serve as a crucial trade and transportation hub between the two countries.
It will facilitate the movement of goods, people, and vehicles across the border, including passenger movement. During his visit, Minister Nityanand Rai also interacted with field commanders and troops at the Meghalaya Frontier of the Border Security Force (BSF) and discussed the challenges and measures being taken to control trans-border crime.

Polavarapu Mallikharjuna Prasad Set to Become Coal India CMD

Polavarapu Mallikharjuna Prasad is poised to become the chairman and managing director of Coal India Limited after receiving the nod from the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB). Prasad currently serves as the chairman cum managing director of Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL) in Ranchi. Out of the seven candidates shortlisted and interviewed for the position, Prasad emerged as a top contender. He is a mining engineer from Osmania University and has more than three decades of experience in the mining sector.
Prasad played a pivotal role in unlocking coal reserves of 26 million tonnes (MT) in FY15 by diverting the Nallah at Hingula opencast area and initiating the construction of a new railway siding at Talcher Coalfields. Prasad previously held the position of CMD at Bharat Coking Coal (BCCL) in August 2019. Both CCL and BCCL are subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. Prasad will succeed Pramod Agrawal, the current CMD, whose term concludes on June 30, 2023.

Buddha Purnima

Buddha Purnima, also known as Vesak or Buddha Jayanti, is an auspicious festival celebrated in the Buddhist calendar. It falls on the full moon day of the month of Vaisakha and commemorates the birth of Lord Gautam Buddha, who was born as Prince Siddhartha Gautam in Lumbini (now in present-day Nepal) around 563 BC. The celebration in Bihar takes place with great religious fervor and joy, particularly at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya, where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment under the sacred Bodhi tree. Buddhist monks and devotees from various countries, including Japan, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia, gather in Bodhgaya to observe Buddha Purnima. A special prayer ceremony was organized this morning under the Bodhi tree, with monks from different countries praying for world peace.

World Portuguese Language Day

The Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP), an intergovernmental organization in official partnership with UNESCO since 2000, established May 5 as World Portuguese Language Day in 2009. This day is dedicated to celebrating the Portuguese language and Lusophone cultures. In 2019, UNESCO's General Conference proclaimed May 5 as "World Portuguese Language Day" during its 40th session. Portuguese, with over 265 million speakers worldwide, is not only one of the most widely spoken languages but also the most prevalent language in the southern hemisphere. It plays a significant role in international communication and has a strong global presence that is projected to increase further.

The received funds can be converted into Indian rupees and settled into their local bank accounts in India within one business day.
The product not only offers dedicated facilities in USD, GBP, EUR, and CAD but also enables global collections in over 30 currencies, up to the equivalent of $10,000, complying with the Reserve Bank of India's Online Payment Gateway Service Providers (OPGSP) guidelines. Exporters can easily share their payment collection details with buyers via email, SMS, or WhatsApp, and buyers can make payments using local rails such as Automated Clearing House (ACH), Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), and more.
