Class 7 Maths Chapter 6 Question Answers - Lines and Angles

Q1: Define the following:
(a) Adjacent angles

Ans:  Adjacent angles: The angles are said to be adjacent only if they have a common arm/side and a common vertex and they do not overlap. 

(b) Supplementary angles
Ans:  Supplementary angles: When the sum of two angles is 180°, then they are said to be supplementary angles. 

(c) Complementary angles
Ans:  Complementary angles: When the sum of two angles is 90°, then they are said to be complementary angles. 

(d) Linear pair of angles
Ans:  Linear pair of angles: When a straight line is divided into two parts, i.e., two different angles. Then those angles are said to be linear pair.
The measure of a straight angle is 180°. So a linear pair of angle must add upto 180° 

(e) Vertically opposite angle
Ans: Vertically opposite angle: When two lines cross then they share the same vertex, vertically opposite angles are the angles opposite to one another having a common vertex.
