Fill in the blanks (1 mark):

Q1: The amount of space occupied by an object is its______.
Ans:
Volume

Q2: 1000 millilitre is equal to ______ litre
Ans:
one liter

Q3: Volume of a cube of side 3 cm is ______ cu cm.
Ans:
27 cu cm

Q4: Half of one litre is same as ______ milliliter.
Ans:
500 ml

Q5: If the volume of a cube is 27 cubic cm, its one side is ______.
Ans:
  3 cm

Answer the following (2 marks):

Q6: Find the volume of a cuboid of length 4 cm, breadth 2 cm and height 3 cm?
Sol:
Volume =l x b x h
= 4 x 2 x 3
= 24 cu cm

Q7: The length, breadth and height of the inside of a rectangular box are 100 cm, 80 cm and 60 cm. How many centimeter cubes can be fitted in that box?
Sol:
Given l =100 cm, b = 80 cm, h =60 cm
Volume = l x b x h
= 100 x 80 x 60
= 480000 cu cm.

Q8: A water tank has length 9 cm, breadth 7 cm and height 5 cm. How many cubic metre of water can it hold?
Sol:
Given l = 9 cm, b= 7 cm, h = 5 cm
Volume = l x b x h
= 9 x 7 x 5
= 315 cu cm.

Q9: A brick is 24 cm long, 14 cm wide and 10 cm high. Find the space occupied by 500 such bricks?
Sol:
Given l = 24 cm, b = 14 cm, h = 10 cm
Volume of one brick = l x b x h
= 24 x 14 x 10
= 3360 cu cm.

Q10: Find the volume of a cuboid of side 8cm x 6 cm x 5 cm and a cube of side 9 cm. Which has greater volume?
Sol:
Volume of a cuboid = l x b x h = 8 x 6 x 5 = 240 cu cm
Volume of a cube = l x b x h
= 9 x 9 x 9
= 27 cu cm.
Therefore, cuboid has a greater volume.

Q11: The volume of 6 marbles is 5 ml. Then find the volume of
(a) 24 such marbles
(b) 30 such marbles.
Sol:
The volume of 6 marbles = 5 ml
(a) Volume of 24 such marbles = 5 x 4 = 20 ml
(b) Volume of 30 such marbles = 5 x 5 = 25 ml

Q12: A 2 rupee coin weighs 6g. What is the weight of a sack with:
(a) 1500 coins?
(b) 3000 coins?
Sol:
Weight of a two rupee coin = 6 g
(a) Weight of a sack with 1500 coins = 1500 x 6 = 9000g = 9 kg
(b) Weight of a sack with 3000 coins = 3000 x 6 = 18000 kg

Q13: A match box measure 6 cm x 5 cm x 4 cm. Find its volume?
Sol:
Volume = l x b x h = 6 x 5 x 4 = 120 cu cm

Q14: Find the volume of a cube whose edge is 15cm long?
Sol:
Volume of a cube = l x b x h = 15 x 15 x 15 = 3375 cu cm

Q15: How many cubes of side 5 cm can be packed in a box of 30 cm x 25 cm x 20 cm?
Sol:
Volume of a cuboid = l x b x h = 30 x 25 x 20 = 15000 cu cm
Volume of a cube = l x b x h = 5 x 5 x 5 = 125 cu cm
Number of cubes that can be packed in a box = 15000 / 125
= 120 cubes.
