Summary

  • A letter is a form of communication between two people.
  • We will learn about the journey of a letter.
  • There are various forms in which letters can be sent.
  • Some of them are postcards, envelopes, inland letters, etc.
  • But it takes a lot of time to reach a letter.
  • Before we receive the letter it covers a long journey and goes through various hands and procedures.
  • We drop the letter in a letter box.
  • From the letterbox, the letters are taken to the post office where they are stamped.
  • Further sent to the address where these are to be delivered.
  • The postman delivers these to us by hand.
  • In earlier days letters were sent through a messenger or by pigeons.
  • Now, other means of communication have become fast.
  • We now use telephones, e-mails, SMS, and WhatsApp as they instant reach.
  • We would write the PIN code number after the address.
  • It helps in reaching the letter fast.

Reena's Letter

  • A letter was written by Reena to her friend Ahmed.
  • It was kept in a letterbox.
  • Postman took it out and kept it in a big bag.
  • Taking the ride on a bicycle it reached the post office.
  • There it was taken out from that big bag and was stamped.
  • The stamp was of Agartala from where its travel began.
  • After getting stamped it reached another big bag.
  • The bag had many more letters, all headings.
  • The red postal van dropped it at the railway station.
  • There it was kept in a train going to Delhi.
  • After a journey of five to six days it reached Delhi.
  • It was sorted based on the area written on it.
  • One more stamp was applied to it.
  • Finally, it reached Ahmed's house.

  • So it replaced letters nowadays.

  • For this we need two empty matchboxes or ice-cream cups and thread.
  • We will have to make holes in both the matchboxes and ice cream cups.
  • Thread a needle through both holes.
  • On both ends of the thread, tie knots.
  • Our telephone is now ready.
  • Ask a friend to put one of the phones next to his ear and you hold the other end close to your mouth.
  • The thread should remain stretched.
  • It should not touch anywhere on the ground or floor.
  • Keep it above the floor level.
