Q1: Manoj is travelling in his car and travels 120 km in 3 hours. Find the speed per hour.
Sol:
Distance travelled in 3 hours = 120 km
To find the distance travelled in 1 hour, we divide.
Distance travelled in 1 hour = 120/3
= 40 km

Q2: When fresh fish is dried, it becomes 1/3 of its weight. If we want 6 kg of dried fish, how many kilograms of fresh fish is needed?
Sol: When fish is dried, it becomes 1/3rd of its weight.
To get 6kg of total dried fish, we would need 3 times of fresh fish.
So, quantity of fresh fish needed = 6 x 3 = 18 kg
We need 18kg of fresh fish so that when it is dried, we are left with 6kg of dried fish.
(We can even check our answer: 18 x 1/3 = 6)

Q3: Speed of a motorboat is 10 km/hour. How far can a motorboat go in seven and a half hours?
Sol: Speed of a motorboat = 10 km/hour
Distance travelled in 7 hours = 7 x 10 = 70 km
Distance travelled in 1 hour= 70/7 = 10 km
Distance travelled in half an hour = 10/2 = 5 km
Distance travelled in seven and half hours = 75 km

Sol: Amount repaid in one year = 36000 rupees
Amount repaid in every month = 36000/12 = 3000 rupees

Q6: Nithya borrowed 12000 rupees from a bank. She repays 825 rupees every month for a year. How much money does she repay at the end of a year?
Sol: Amount repaid in every month = 825 rupees
Amount repaid at the end of a year = 825 x 12 = 9900 rupees.

Q7: Amal took a loan of 24000 rupees for buying a laptop. He paid back a total of 30000 rupees in one year. How much did he pay back every month?
Sol: Amount paid back in one year = 30000 rupees
Amount paid back in every month = 30000 /12 = 2500 rupees

Cost of prawns = 250 rupees/kg
Cost of 12 kg mackerels = 120 x 12 = 1440 rupees
Cost of 15 kg prawns = 15 x 250 = 3750 rupees
Difference = 3750 – 1440 = 2310 rupees

Q9: Gracy took a loan of 4000 rupees to buy a net. She paid back 345 rupees every month for one year. How much money did she pay back to the Bank?
Sol: Amount paid back in every month = 345 rupees
Amount paid back in one year = 345 x 12 = 4140 rupees

Q10: The speed of a long tail boat is 12 km/hour. If a long tail boat has to travel 60 km how long will it take?
Sol: Speed of a long tail boat = 12 km/ hour
Time taken to cover 60 km = 60/12 = 5 hours.
