Mohinder's uncle collected old coins, so he examined it and offered to exchange the rod for the coin. Ranji agreed and got the fishing rod.

Ans: Ranji couldn't catch any fish because it was the dry season, and the river had very little water. It was shallow and muddy, which made it hard to find any fish.
