APPSC Group 1 Exam Pattern Overview

The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) conducts the Group 1 Exam to recruit civil servants for prestigious positions within the Andhra state administration.

Exam Stages

• There are two stages – Prelims and Mains. Starting from June 2021, interviews have been discontinued for all state service examinations, including APPSC Group 1.

Prelims

• The Prelims serve as a Screening Test and consists of two papers with a total of 240 marks.
• Negative marking is applicable in the Prelims stage.
• Candidates who pass the Prelims move on to the Main stage of the exam.

Mains

• The Mains is a written-descriptive type exam comprising 7 theory papers.
• There are two qualifying papers in Mains – Telugu and English.
• The marks obtained in the Mains stage are considered for the final merit list. Further details on total marks will be available upon the official notification from APPSC.

• Paper I – General Studies
• Paper II – General Aptitude
• Number of questions: 120 questions
• Nature of questions: Objective Type (MCQ)
• Duration: 120 minutes
• Maximum Marks: 120 marks
• Negative Marking: 1/3rd of the marks prescribed for the question

• Constitution, Social Justice and International Relations – 30 marks
• Indian Economy and Andhra Pradesh Economy and Planning – 30 marks
• Geography – 30 marks

APPSC Group 1 Exam Pattern

The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) conducts the Group 1 examination to select candidates for various administrative positions. The exam consists of multiple stages, each designed to assess different aspects of a candidate's knowledge and skills.

Understanding the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) Exam Process

• Minimum Qualifying Marks: 40% (OC), 35% (BC), 30% (SC/ST/PH)

Papers Counted for Merit Ranking:

• Paper 1 – Essay – on contemporary themes and issues of regional, national, and international importance
• Paper 2 – History, Culture, and Geography of India and Andhra Pradesh
• Paper 3 – Constitution, Polity, Governance, Law, and Ethics
• Paper 4 – Economy and Development of India and Andhra Pradesh

• Note: The candidates can answer the above papers in English/Telugu/Urdu based on their preference stated in the online application.
• All merit ranking papers must be written in the same language.

Selection Process:

The candidates who clear the Mains stage are then called for an interview with the APPSC board. Usually, candidates are called in the ratio of 2:1 concerning the number of vacancies.
