Fractions and Operations

  • Fractions represent parts of a whole. The top number, called the numerator, indicates how many parts we have. The bottom number, called the denominator, tells us how many equal parts the whole is divided into.
  • Example: In the fraction 3/4, 3 is the numerator and 4 is the denominator. This means we have 3 parts out of a total of 4.
