Key Points of the Story
Detailed Summary
Amber came back from school and sat under the neem tree in her courtyard, looking for a quiet and peaceful place to rest. As she sat there, she felt a special connection with the tree, as if it was speaking to her. Curious, she decided to talk to the tree and called it "Neem Baba." To her surprise, Neem Baba responded and recognized her from her childhood days when she used to play under its shade. The tree told her that it was very old, having existed for millions of years. It first grew in North India or Myanmar and later spread to different parts of the world.
Curious, Amber asked Neem Baba about its name. Neem Baba explained that it is called by different names in various places. In Sanskrit, it is known as "Arishta," which means "one who cures diseases." The Iranians called it "Neem," and in India, people refer to it as Nim, Limba, Nimori, Nimbamond, Nimba, and Nimo. Neem Baba also spoke about how different cultures consider the neem tree very special. Scientists call it a natural wonder because of its many uses. It is often referred to as the "bitter grace of God," the "magic tree," and "nature’s gift to man."
Amber then shared how neem is used in everyday life. She talked about how people use neem twigs to clean their teeth. She also recalled how her family used different parts of the neem tree for treating illnesses. Neem is helpful in curing measles, respiratory problems, and even eye itchiness. Neem Baba explained that neem leaves contain special chemicals that can kill germs and help in healing many diseases.
The conversation then moved to the benefits of neem in farming. Neem Baba told Amber how neem-based solutions can keep locusts away, protect crops, and stop plant diseases. Amber was amazed to learn that neem also helps in controlling mosquito breeding, preserving stored grains, and making products like soaps and toothpaste. Neem even helps in purifying the air. The tree also explained that neem wood is termite-resistant and is used to make strong and long-lasting furniture.
Hearing all this, Amber was excited by the neem tree’s many uses and expressed her wish to learn more about it as she grew older. Neem Baba, happy with her curiosity and interest, blessed her and encouraged her to keep exploring the wonders of nature. Through this conversation, Amber realized how important the neem tree is in health, farming, and daily life, and she developed a deeper respect for this amazing tree.
