Ugadi

• Ugadi is one of Karnataka's most celebrated festivals, marking the new year for Kannada and Telugu people. The festival is also observed by Maharashtrians, Sindhis, and Hindus from other regions, often referred to as "Gudi Parwa."
• During Ugadi, people don traditional attire and prepare a special dish called "Ugadi Pachadi," made from ingredients like jaggery, raw mango, chili, neem, tamarind, and salt. Homes are decorated with mango leaf garlands to welcome guests.

Ganesh Chaturthi

• Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayak Chaturthi, is another major festival in Karnataka, celebrated for ten days annually. Falling in August or September according to the Hindu calendar, the festival honors the birth of Lord Ganesha, the deity of wisdom and prosperity.
• This festival is not only celebrated in Karnataka but also in states like Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Telangana. Devotees set up "pandals" at homes or public places to worship Lord Ganesha’s idols. The ten days of celebrations culminate in the immersion of the idol in water, a ritual known as "Visarjana," which is accompanied by lively processions, music, and dancing.

Makar Sankranti

• Makar Sankranti, known as the harvest festival, is another significant celebration in Karnataka. 
• This festival, also celebrated in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and other parts of India, features the preparation of "til ke ladoo" and the tradition of kite flying. 
• On this day, people worship the Sun God.

Tula Sankramana

• Tula Sankramana, a well-known festival in Coorg, Karnataka, celebrates the miraculous appearance of Goddess Cauvery in a small tank due to a sudden water outburst. 
• Devotees gather annually at the tank to honor the virtual presence of the Goddess Kaveri. This festival is especially prominent in the Coorg district.

Karaga

• Karaga is a famous folk dance festival in Karnataka, particularly in Bengaluru. It is one of the oldest festivals in the region and is associated with Draupadi, a key figure in the epic Mahabharata.

Gowri Habba

• Gowri Habba is a festival dedicated to Goddess Gowri, the mother of Lord Ganesha, celebrated just before Ganesh Chaturthi. 
• The festival is based on the legend of Goddess Gauri visiting her parents, followed by Lord Ganesha coming to take her back home the next day. 
• Women observe this festival by taking a holy bath, wearing traditional attire, and placing a turmeric idol of Goddess Gauri in their home temples. 
• The ritual involves preparing a plate with black beads, turmeric, a small mirror, Kum Kum, a comb, dal, and jewelry, the first of which is offered to the Goddess.
