Vultures may not be considered as beautiful birds. However, they play an important role in our ecosystem and food web.
Vultures are scavengers. They feed on carcasses of animals and remove their bodies from the environment. This is an important job that goes beyond keeping the environment clean and beautiful.
Vultures protect the environment and human beings from deadly diseases. If any dead body remains in the environment even for a short period of time, bacteria would grow. These bacteria are tiny organisms that cannot be seen with the human eye and can make animals and humans sick. Vultures remove carcasses of animals quickly before bacteria has time to grow. Additionally, their stomach contains a strong acid that helps in destroying these harmful bacteria they eat.
Unfortunately, there are some poisons found in dead bodies that are deadly to vultures. These poisons have been responsible for the majority of vulture deaths for the last 40 years. There have been so many deaths that vultures are now on the list of endangered animals.
The future of vultures is an issue across the globe. Some of these deaths are accidental, but vultures have also been poisoned on purpose.
Almost 30 years ago in the United States, the California condor population was reduced to 22 birds. California condors are vultures whose wingspans can reach upto three meters, or almost ten feet. They were accidentally poisoned by lead bullets in carcasses of animals left behind by hunters. Condors accidentally ate the lead bullets and died.
Conservation has been effective. People around the world are working to prevent their extinction. Even though there are now more than 400 birds, the California condor is still considered as one of the rarest birds on the Earth,

He got his food by begging for alms. One morning he got a pot of milk as part of the alms. He was extremely delighted and went home with the pot of milk. He boiled the milk, drank some of it and put the remaining milk in the pot. He added little bit of curd in the pot for converting the milk into curd. He then lied down to sleep.
Soon, he started dreaming while he was asleep. He was dreaming that if he could become rich somehow, all his miseries would be gone. His thoughts now turned towards the pot of milk which he had set to form curd. He continued dreaming; “By morning the pot of milk would set, it would be converted to curd. I would churn the curd and make butter from it. I would heat the butter and make ghee out of it. I will then go to the market and sell that ghee, and make some money. With that money I will buy a hen. The hen will lay eggs which will hatch and there will be many chickens. These chickens will in turn lay hundreds of eggs and I will ^soon have a poultry farm of my own.” He kept on dreaming.
“I will sell all the hens of my poultry and buy some cows, and open a milk dairy. Everyone in the town will buy milk from me. I will be very rich and soon I shall buy jewels. The king will buy all the jewels from me. I will be so rich that I will be able to marry an exceptionally beautiful girl from a rich family. Soon I will have a handsome son. If he will do any mischief I will be very angry and to teach him a lesson, I will hit him with a big stick.” During this dream, he involuntarily picked up the stick next to his bed and thinking as if he was beating his son, he raised the stick and hit the pot. The pot of milk broke and he woke up from his daydream.
