Key Points of the Story
Detailed Summary
Once upon a time, in a deep forest, there was a very tall tree. This tree was special because it had many leafy branches that looked like strong arms reaching out. This tall tree was the home of a flock of wild geese. The geese felt very safe and happy living in this tree. Among them was a wise old goose who always thought carefully about things.
One day, the wise old goose noticed a small creeper plant growing at the bottom of the tree. He gathered the other geese and said, “Do you see that little creeper there? We should destroy it.” The other geese were surprised and asked, “Why should we destroy it? It is so small and harmless!” The wise old goose explained, “If we do not stop it now, it will grow big and strong. It can climb up the tree and help a hunter reach us.”
The geese did not understand why a little plant could be a problem. They said, “There is no need to worry about it now. It is very small.” The wise old goose warned them again, “If we wait too long, the creeper will become tough and hard to cut.” But the other geese did not listen and decided to leave the creeper alone.
As time passed, the creeper grew and grew. It became as thick and strong as a rope, wrapping itself around the tree. One morning, while the geese were out looking for food, a hunter came into the forest. He saw the tall tree and said to himself, “This is where the wild geese live. I will catch them when they come back.” The hunter climbed the tree using the creeper. He set a net at the top and then went away.
When the geese returned home, they did not see the net. As they flew into their tree, they got caught in the hunter’s trap. They struggled and flapped their wings, but they could not get free. They cried out for help, saying, “Help! We are stuck in the hunter’s net! What should we do?”
The wise old goose reminded them, “I told you to destroy that creeper a long time ago, but you did not listen. Now we are in big trouble. Tomorrow, the hunter will come back and he will kill us all.” The geese felt very sorry and cried, “We were foolish to ignore your advice. Please help us!”
The wise old goose said, “Listen carefully. When the hunter comes, pretend to be dead. Just lie still and do not move. The hunter will think you are all dead and will throw you down to the ground. Then, when he is done, we can all fly away.”
The next morning, the hunter climbed up to the tree. He looked at the geese in the net and said, “They are all dead.” He started throwing them out of the net one by one. The geese lay very still until the last one was thrown down. Then, all at once, they flapped their wings and flew away. The hunter was surprised and could only watch as all the geese escaped into the sky.
This story teaches us a lesson about listening to wise advice and taking action before it is too late. The geese learned that ignoring problems can lead to big trouble.
