Introduction

We must be careful all the time because accidents can happen if we are not safe. Accidents can hurt our body, so we need to follow safety rules to stay protected. Safety rules help us in many places like home, school, while playing, on the road, and in a vehicle. If someone gets hurt, we can give them first aid, which is the help we give before a doctor comes.

Safety on the Road

• Always walk on the pavement, not on the road.
• Cross the road only when the traffic light is red and the vehicles have stopped.
• Look to the right, then to the left, and again to the right before crossing the road.
• Cross the road only when no vehicles are coming.
• Never run on the road, always walk carefully.
• Cross the road only at zebra crossings where it is safe.

Sing with Your Teacher

"Stop, look, and listen, 
Before you cross the street. 
First use your eyes and ears, 
Then use your feet!"

Safety while Playing

• Do not play on the road, it is not safe.
• Do not play with sharp objects like knives or scissors, they can hurt you.
• Follow the rules when you play games.
• Wait for your turn on slides and swings, do not push others.
• Do not stand in front of a moving swing, it can hit you.
• Never push others from a swing, slide, or see-saw, it can hurt them.
• Do not play hide and seek in dark or lonely places, it is not safe.
• Play inside the playground, not on the road.
• Ride your cycle in the playground or open fields, not on the road.
• Do not play near open manholes, you might fall in.

Safety at School

• Do not keep your bottle and bag on the floor, it can make others trip.
• Do not stand on desks and chairs, you might fall.
• Never fight with others or bully them, be kind.
• Do not run in the corridors or on the stairs, walk slowly.
• Always listen to your teacher and follow their instructions.
• Never break a queue or push others while waiting in a queue.
• Do not run or push others on the stairs, it can cause an accident.

Safety at Home

• Do not play with sharp objects like knives and blades, they can cut you.
• Do not touch electric wires and plugs, they can give you a shock.
• Put your toys back in their proper place after playing, do not leave them on the floor.
• Do not touch electrical switches when your hands are wet, it is dangerous.
• Do not try to light a matchstick, it can start a fire and be dangerous.
• Keep away from hot things like the gas stove, oven, toaster, and heater, they can burn you.
• Never taste medicines on your own, they are not candies.
• Do not run up and down the stairs, you might fall and get hurt.

Safety in a Vehicle

• Stand in a queue while waiting for a bus, do not push others.
• Always get in or out of a vehicle after it has stopped completely.
• Do not push others while getting on or off a bus, be gentle.
• Never put your head or hand out of a moving vehicle, it is not safe.
• Never disturb the driver, they need to focus on driving.
• Do not open the door of a moving vehicle, it can be dangerous.
• Always wear a seat belt while travelling in a car to stay safe.

Some More Safety Rules

• Never go swimming alone, always have an adult with you.
• Use a swimming tube if you are a beginner to stay safe in water.
• Never tease stray animals on the road, they might get angry and bite you.
• If you or someone else gets hurt, tell an elder like your teacher if you are at school, or your parents if you are at home.
• While waiting for help, make the hurt person comfortable and help them relax.

Fun Fact

The immediate help we give to a person who is hurt before the doctor comes is called first aid.
