Introduction

Need for Houses

• Living things need houses to stay safe from enemies and weather changes.
• Humans build houses to protect themselves from heat, rain, cold, wind, thieves, animals, dust, dirt, and insects.

Types of Houses

Pucca Houses

• Made of bricks, cement, iron, steel, and other strong materials.
• Cannot be moved from one place to another.
• Very strong and last for a long time.
• Commonly found in towns and cities.

Kutcha Houses

• Made of wood, mud, straw, clay, and bamboo.
• Also called huts.
• Mostly found in villages.
• Not very strong and do not last long.
• Can be broken down and rebuilt easily.
• Considered temporary houses.

Other Temporary Houses

Caravan

• A mobile house that can be moved easily.
• Used by gypsies and circus workers.

Tent

• Made of canvas or cloth.
• Used by campers, nomads, and soldiers.

Houseboat

• A wooden house built on a boat.
• Floats on water and is found in lakes of Kashmir and Kerala.
• In China, houseboats are called sampans.

Special Houses

Igloo

• Made of snow.
• Found in very cold places.
• Usually built by Eskimos for living.

Stilt House

• Built on long pieces of wood or metal.
• Found in areas with heavy rain and frequent floods.
• Raised high above the ground to prevent water from entering or washing them away.

Houses in Hilly Areas

• Have sloping roofs to let snow and water slide off easily.

A Good House

• Should be clean and airy.
• Should get plenty of sunlight.
• Should have plants around it.
• Wire mesh on doors and windows is used to keep out insects and allow fresh air.

Clothes We Wear

• Clothes are chosen based on the weather.
• They protect the body from heat, cold, rain, dust, and insects.
• Clothes make us look smart and neat.
• We should wear clean and well-ironed clothes.

Winter Clothes

• Worn in cold weather to keep the body warm.
• Made of wool, which does not let cold air pass through.
• Thick clothes are used to maintain body warmth.

Clothes for Rainy Days

• Protect clothes from getting wet.
• Raincoats are made of waterproof plastic to keep water out.
• Umbrellas are often used for extra protection.
