India is a country of many colourful festivals, but my favourite festival is Holi – the Festival of Colours. Holi is celebrated every year in the month of March and marks the arrival of spring. I love Holi because it is full of joy, colours, and fun with friends and family.
A day before Holi, we celebrate Holika Dahan. In the evening, people gather around a big bonfire and pray for the victory of good over evil. We sing songs, clap, and walk around the fire. The bonfire reminds us that truth and goodness always win.
The next morning is the main celebration of Holi. I wake up early, wear old clothes, and get ready with my colours, water balloons, and pichkaris (water guns). As soon as I step outside, my friends throw colours on me, and I do the same. We laugh, chase each other, and play for hours. The whole neighborhood becomes colourful and lively.
My parents also join the celebration by applying gulal (dry colour) on each other's faces. We visit our relatives and friends to wish them “Happy Holi” and put colours on them. Everywhere you look, people are smiling, dancing, and enjoying themselves.
After playing, we return home, take a bath, and wear clean clothes. Then, we sit together and enjoy delicious food. My mother prepares tasty dishes like gujiyas, puris, and sweets, which I love eating. Sometimes, relatives visit us, and we spend the evening chatting and laughing together.
What makes Holi my favourite festival is the happiness it brings. On this day, everyone forgets their worries and celebrates together. It also teaches us the value of forgiveness, love, and unity.
In conclusion, Holi is not just a festival of colours but also a festival of happiness, togetherness, and new beginnings. That is why I love Holi the most and wait for it every year with great excitement.
