Word Problem: Grandmother’s Quilt | Mathematics (Maths Mela) Class 5 - New NCERTQ1: Length of a rectangular garden is 4 times its breadth. If the length of the garden is 72 metres, then find the area of the garden.
Ans: Length of rectangular garden = 72 m
So, the breadth = 72 ÷ 4 = 18 m
Area of the rectangle = length × breadth
= 72 × 18 = 1296 m²

Q2: A square garden has a perimeter of 96 m. Find the length of its side and the area of the garden.
Ans. Perimeter = 96 m
Side = Perimeter ÷ 4 = 96 ÷ 4 = 24 m
Area = side × side = 24 × 24 = 576 m²

Q3: Find the area of a square plot with side 12 m.
Ans: Area = side × side = 12 × 12 = 144 m²

Q4: Find the Perimeter (P) and the Area (A) of the given figure. Assume each side of the unit square is 3 cm.
Ans:Word Problem: Grandmother’s Quilt | Mathematics (Maths Mela) Class 5 - New NCERTEach square is of length 3 cm.
Now perimeter means the continuous line forming the boundary of a closed geometry figure.

As shown in figure; Perimeter of given figure = (3 + 3 + 3 + 3) + (3 + 3 + 3) + (3) + (3) + (3 + 3) + (3) + (3) + (3)
∴ Perimeter of given figure = 42 cm

Now for Area; Area of one square = length × length
∴ Area of one square = 3 × 3
∴ Area of one square = 9 cm²

Now there are 10 squares in given figure as shown below;
Therefore; Area of given figure = area of one square × number of squares
∴ Area of given figure = 9 × 10 = 90 cm²

Q5: Find the Perimeter and Area of below square:
Word Problem: Grandmother’s Quilt | Mathematics (Maths Mela) Class 5 - New NCERTAns: Square means all sides of quadrilateral are same.
Now, Perimeter of square = 25 + 25 + 25 + 25
∴ Perimeter of square = 100 cm

Now, Area of square = side × side
∴ Area of square = 25 × 25 = 625 cm²

Q6: Riya and Sanya draw rectangles of same size in their books.
Riya’s book: 55 cm × 25 cm
Sanya’s book: 50 cm × 30 cm
Find whose book has more area.

Ans: Area of Riya’s book = 55 × 25 = 1375 cm²
Area of Sanya’s book = 50 × 30 = 1500 cm²
Therefore, Sanya’s book has more area.

Q7:  Find the length of a rectangular school playground of 3600 m² area and 45 m breadth.
Ans: Area of playground = Length × Breadth
∴ 3600 = Length × 45
∴ Length = 3600 ÷ 45 = 80 m

Q8: A rectangular sports field is 180 m long and 120 m in breadth. Find the area of the field.
Ans: Area of rectangular field = length × breadth
∴ Area = 180 × 120 = 21600 m²

Q9: The length of a rectangular swimming pool is twice its breadth. If its perimeter is 72 m, find its length, breadth and area.
Ans.
Let breadth = x, then length = 2x
Perimeter = 2 × (l + b) = 72
2 × (2x + x) = 72 → 6x = 72 → x = 12
Breadth = 12 m, Length = 24 m
Area = l × b = 24 × 12 = 288 m²

Q10:Priya and Anjali draw rectangles of same size in their rectangular purses.
Priya’s rectangular purses: Length = 50 cm, Breadth = 30 cm
Anjali’s rectangular purses: Length = 45 cm, Breadth = 35 cm
Find whose rectangular purse has more area.

Ans: Area of Priya’s purse = 50 × 30 = 1500 cm²
Area of Anjali’s purse = 45 × 35 = 1575 cm²

Therefore, Anjali’s purse has more area.
