Ans. The four means of transport are:

(ii) What do you understand by the term ‘settlement’? 
Ans. Settlements are places where human beings built their homes. Earlier human beings lived in forests and in caves, but with time and advancement in vegetation, humans made homes to create settlements.

(iii) Which are the activities practised by the rural people?
Ans. Activities like agriculture, fishing, forestry, crafts work, trading, etc are practised by the rural people.

(iv) Mention any two merits of railways.
Ans. Two merits of railways are:

  1. It can carry heavy goods and people over long distances quickly.
  2. It is a cheaper means of transport.

(v) What do you understand by communication? 
Ans. Communication is the process of conveying messages to others. Technology has helped us discover faster means of communication. Telephones, mobile phones and the internet are a few means of communication that we use.

(vi) What is mass media? 
Ans. Different means of communication have brought about an information revolution in the country. Various media like radio, television and newspapers are used to provide information to people. This mode of providing information is known as mass media.

We can reach opposite corners of the world in no time due to improved means of transportation. Globalization of markets added flavour to it. That is why the world has now became small villa or get shrink.
