NERVOUS SYSTEM :

Function of nervous system is perception of sense & analysis of sense, reaction according to a sense & control and coordination of various parts of body.

It is divided into 3 parts

(a) Central Nervous system : Central nervous system is made up of brain & spinal cord. It is involved in analysis of sense.

(b) Peripheral Nervous System : It is made up of cranial nerves and spinal nerves. 10 pairs of cranial nerves & 10 pairs of spinal nerves are present in frog.

– (In Ranatigrina, 9 pairs spinal nerves are present) 12 pairs cranial nerve & 31 pairs spinal nerves are present in human.

– 12 pairs cranial nerves & 33 pairs spinal nerves are present in rat.

(c) Autonomous Nervous System : This controls the autonomous parts (automatic) of the body.

This system control the autonomic parts of the body like heart, lungs & intestine. Two type of nerves are present in it.

(1) Sympathetic Nerve : It increase the rate of autonomous organs.

(2) Parasympathetic nerve : It decrease the rate of autonomous organs.

Excretory system : One pair of kidney are present in it. Each kidney is made up of 2000 uriniferous tubules or nephrons. Kidney form urine which is stored in urinary bladder & excreted through cloacal aperture. The main excretory product in frog is urea, so it is a ureotelic animal.

SPECIAL POINTS :
1. Sexual dimorphism is present in frog. Nuptial pad & vocal sac are present in male frog only.
2. 10 vertebrae are present in frog.
3. Frog has different types of sense organs, namely organs of touch(sensory papillae), taste (taste buds), smell (nasal epithelium), vision (eyes) and hearing (tympanum with internal ears).

ECONOMICAL IMPORTANCE OF FROG :
Frogs are beneficial for mankind because they eat insects and protect the crop. Frogs maintain ecological balance because these serve as an important link of food chain and food web in the ecosystem. In some countries the muscular legs of frog are used as food by man.

FAQs on Excretory & Nervous Systems: Frog - Additional Study Material for NEET

1. What is the function of the excretory system in frogs?
Ans. The excretory system in frogs is responsible for removing waste products, such as urea and ammonia, from their bodies. It helps maintain the balance of water and electrolytes, regulates the pH of their blood, and eliminates nitrogenous waste through the kidneys and skin.
2. How does the nervous system of a frog work?
Ans. The nervous system of a frog consists of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. It functions to receive and process sensory information, coordinate movement, and control bodily functions. Nerve impulses are transmitted through neurons, which are specialized cells that communicate through electrical signals.
3. What organs are involved in the excretory system of a frog?
Ans. The excretory system of a frog includes several organs. The kidneys are the primary excretory organs responsible for filtering waste from the blood and producing urine. The bladder stores urine before it is eliminated through the cloaca. Additionally, the skin of the frog also plays a role in excretion by allowing the release of water and certain waste products.
4. How does the excretory system of a frog differ from that of a human?
Ans. The excretory system of a frog differs from that of a human in several ways. Frogs excrete waste primarily through their skin, while humans rely on the kidneys as the main excretory organ. Frogs also have specialized adaptations, such as the ability to reabsorb water from their bladder, which helps them conserve water in their aquatic environment.
5. How does the nervous system of a frog control its movements?
Ans. The nervous system of a frog controls its movements through the coordination of various structures. The brain receives sensory information from the environment, which is then processed and used to initiate motor commands. These commands are transmitted from the brain to the muscles through the spinal cord and peripheral nerves, allowing the frog to move in response to stimuli.
