The Government of India is sharing a draft of the proposed amendments to the Consumer Protection (E-commerce) Rules, 2020.

The proposed amendments are as follows:

• To ensure compliance of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and Rules, appointment of
  • Chief Compliance Officer, a nodal contact person for 24x7 coordination with law enforcement agencies, and
  • Resident Grievance Officer for redressing of the grievances of the consumers on the e-commerce platform, has been proposed.
• Putting in place a framework for registration of every e-commerce entity with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) for allotment of registration number. Registration of e-commerce entities would help create a database of genuine e-commerce entities
• To protect the interests of consumers, mis-selling has been prohibited i.e selling goods and services entities selling goods or services by deliberate misrepresentation of information by such entities about such goods or services.
• To ensure that consumers are aware about the expiry date of the products they are buying on the e-commerce platform all sellers on marketplace e-commerce entities and all inventory e-commerce entities to provide best before or use before date to enable consumers to make an informed purchase decision.
• To ensure that the domestic manufacturers and suppliers get a fair and equal treatment on the e-commerce platform it has been provided that where an e-commerce entity offers imported goods or services, it shall incorporate a filter mechanism to identify goods based on country of origin.
• To ensure that consumers are not adversely affected in the event where a seller fails to deliver the goods or services, provisions of Fall-back liability for every marketplace e-commerce entity have been provided.
• Hence both statements are correct.

Union minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot announced establishment of five ’Divyangta Khel Kendras’ in different parts of country.

• They have been established while looking at the interest towards the sports among the Divyangjan of the country and their good performance in Paralympics.
• He also distributed aids and assistive devices to ‘Divyangjan’ under the Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) Scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva has responded the concerns raised by Special Procedures Branch of the Human Rights Council regarding India’s Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

• The term ‘special procedures’ refers to the list of mechanisms established by the Human Rights Council to report and advise on human rights from a thematic and country-specific perspective.
• Special procedures cover all human rights: civil, cultural, economic, political and social as well as issues relating to specific groups.
• Special procedures mandate-holders are either an individual (called a Special Rapporteur (SR) or Independent Expert (IE)) or a Working Group (WG) of five members.

International Day of the Celebration of the Solstice was observed on June 21. The Day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on June 20th of 2019.

• A solstice is an event that occurs when the Sun reaches its most northerly or southerly day-arc relative to the equator.

India has the seventh longest coastline in Asia. The coastline is 7,500 km long.

The State government notified Dihing Patkai as a National Park, four days after creating the 422-sq. km Raimona National Park in western Assam’s Kokrajhar district.

The five national parks that existed prior to the Raimona are Kaziranga, Manas, Nameri, Orang and Dibru-Saikhowa.

The Raimona National Park is within the Bodoland Territorial Region. The area of the park includes the northern part of the notified Ripu Reserve Forest (508.62 sq. km), which forms the western-most buffer to the Manas National Park that straddles the India-Bhutan border.
