• Block Level: This is referred to as the Panchayat Samiti or Mandal Parishad. It coordinates activities among various villages within a block.
• District Level: Known as the Zila Parishad, it oversees the entire district and ensures that local needs are addressed effectively.

This system promotes local self-governance, enabling residents to participate in decision-making and development initiatives.

The Sarpanch serves as the head of the Gram Panchayat and has a vital role in managing its operations. Key responsibilities include:

Recently, there has been a notable increase in the number of women elected as Sarpanchs, promoting gender equality in local leadership.

The Panchayat Secretary plays a vital role in supporting the Gram Panchayat by carrying out essential administrative tasks. These include:

• Maintaining important records
• Ensuring the smooth operation of the Panchayat

The Child-Friendly Panchayat Initiative supports children by:

• Facilitating participation in Bal Sabhas and Bal Panchayats.

Vandana Bahadur Maida, the first female Sarpanch of her village, made significant improvements in her community.

Popatrao Baguji Pawar implemented several key environmental initiatives in Hiware Bazar:

• Introduced rainwater harvesting to collect and store rainwater.

• Launched a large-scale tree planting campaign, planting lakhs of trees.
