Lesson 19: Playing a Two Handed Video Lecture | Piano Tutorials Course: Beginners to Advance - Class 6

all right welcome out to the big 2-0
lesson 20 today quite simply we're going
to be playing a we're going to be
playing two two-handed examples also
look forward to that and here we go with
the lesson alright back at our favorite
place of the keyboard with the today
with not one but two playing examples
two examples for the price of one
actually they're all free so it doesn't
matter
so anyway two-handed playing example
lesson 20 number one is what we're
looking at first so as usual we're going
to break it down hand by hand right hand
first left hand second and then we're
going to put them together very slowly
and that's how you should probably
approach a lot of the songs I'm from
here on out once you get very good at
playing piano you can probably start
reading a song for the first time with
both hands together but for now let's
break it up into each separate hand so
here we have our treble clef which we
know is the right hand clef usually
anyway and we have 4/4 time signature
you know hopefully anyway that that we
have four beats per measure is the most
important thing at the quarter note gets
one beat
which I guess is also pretty important
so looking here at our first measure we
have e with three F with 1 2 with G and
5 with C now somebody asked me in the
comments and probably actually a couple
people are wondering what's the
methodology behind coming up with these
fingerings is it because sometimes they
seem kind of random or seem kind of
strange especially to people who are not
regular piano players or just you know
starting out the answer to that question
is that it's it's both a methodology and
it's both it both comes with experience
and I just want to say clearly that
there's always more than one
way to skin a cat is the saying and that
you know there's always more than one
way to do things some some piano
teachers or piano players may come up
with a little bit different fingerings
than I do and that's perfectly fine just
remember the goal if you remember back
to the C major scale the goal is to not
run out of fingers so if you see if you
start the C major scale with one two
three or five you're going to run out of
fingers and crossing over after you've
played your fifth finger is awfully
difficult so we use this fingering one
two three one two three four five that
gives us enough fingers from the
beginning the scale to the end of scale
to play the scale really same thing with
when I write these musical examples I
try to model the fingering as much as I
can after the scale fingering and the
fingering is the same for a couple
scales but for some other scales it's
not depending on what kind of scales
they are but a lot of these songs we've
been playing are in the key of C major
so a lot of the fingering is going to be
consistent with the fingering we use for
the C major scale except it's going to
be kind of broken up since we're not
playing all the notes right in a row so
that's why this one starts with finger
three on e because when you play the C
major scale um three happens to hit with
E and the next note F is one so that's
why the next note is is played with
finger one so remember when we hit
finger three we're going to cross under
with finger one while we do that so
that's why it's going to be 3 1 2 5 so
we have enough fingers to get to that C
anyway the second measure is B with for
a with three G with two and F with 1
and then the third measure is a width of
three and then D with one so we're gonna
have to stretch a little bit but it's
not too far we can do that sometimes
stretching is good like that usually if
you have to stretch between the second
and first finger that's okay what you
don't want to do is you just don't want
to get to the end of your fifth finger
and have to cross over because that's
very very awkward um so anyway once
again the third measure is a with 3d
with one and then um G with 5c with one
then the last measure obviously since
we're already in place we're just going
to hit that with one so like I said most
of the fingering is consistent with this
the C major scale not all of it though
sometimes I'm in certain situations you
want to kind of use whatever is the most
comfortable for you and what keeps you
from running out of fingers so that's
the main goal with fingering is to not
run out of fingers and be able to play
up and down the piano effectively so
here comes the left hand bass clef so
we're down here first note C with finger
five and then e with finger three G with
finger one uh with finger three F with
finger
oh I meant to write finger to actually
I'm going to change that before I put it
in the lesson so finger two with F
finger fourth D and then you want to
reach down with five um you could do
it's a different fingering for this but
this is what I want I wrote B with your
five C with four and C with four again
so there you have it so once you can
play the right hand effectively it
should sound like this with the correct
rhythm

so when you can play the left hand
effectively it's going to sound like
this
now we're going to put both hands
together for this one and we're going to
do it very slowly and very carefully so
here while we hit the first measure
we're looking at we have C with finger
five well we hit B with finger three and
while you hit that C you're also going
to play the next note in the right hand
F since we have two quarter notes for
every one half note and then the second
half measure one you're going to hit E
while you play and C and then the next
measure you have G with one left hand
with you're going to play a with right
hand and then you have that E with
finger three left hand with a and F
right hand and then we're up to the
third measure so we've got F with finger
two and a with finger three pretty
simple since those are both half notes
they hit at the same time and you play
one note - one note so there it is and
then we do the next one also the second
half of measure three so now we've got B
with left hand G with right hand looking
at the fingering there be played with
finger five and G played with finger
five here we go and then lastly actually
we're on the second half of measure for
a next to last measure we're going to
play that because we have C with finger
four left hand I'm C with finger one
right hand and then we're going to play
that again just finish out the song
so once you can play it effectively with
the correct rhythm remember to go slow
at first and then speed it up but once
you can get it to a decent speed it
should sound and look like this

so there you go there is example number
one here comes a two-handed playing
example for less than twenty number two
as what we're looking at so let's just
take our right hand we have another four
four times they ensure four beats in
each measure of course and here we're
going to start out with C with one key
with two G with three C with five so
you're going to stretch a little bit
here that's okay and then you want a
with 4G with three e with 2d with one
and then you want F with three we're on
the third measure and then G with four F
of three um
next comes a with two I'm D with one and
then it goes um G with five e with three
and C with one
so once you play all together it should
sound like this with the right hand
you
so there you have it next left hand of
course now we're going to start with C
with finger one now you may be thinking
well why the heck are we going to do
that that's kind of weird
well if you look at the second note we
have the second of G their first measure
is going to be played with finger four
so we need to start this with finger one
so we have enough room to move down with
finger four so here we go first measure
left hand C with one g with four F with
five G with four eight with three me
with to see with one D with to be with
four he with versi with three sorry then
the last measure is going to be C with
three again since we're already over
three so there you have it and then once
you get it together we want to play it
very slow at first

so once you get it up to a decent speed
it should sound like this
