Lesson 26: Playing Songs in the Key of G Major - Part 3 Video Lecture | Piano Tutorials Course: Beginners to Advance - Class 6

ok everybody back again for lesson 27
this time quite simply all we're doing
is more playing samples in the key of
g-major if you remember the key of
g-major has how many sharps has one
sharp so if you're not sure about that
look at my previous lessons I think
theory lessons three four and five I go
over the circle face and what key
signatures are about so if you don't
know about that go back and look at that
but anyway here comes the lesson alright
everybody back at the keyboard once
again we have two examples for today as
usual these examples if you notice will
be very similar the melody is the same
with some differences the second one is
more of a challenge one so I at least
recommend you play the first one but I
of course recommend you to do both but
the first one is usually a little bit
easier so let's take a look at what we
got here we have a piece here with right
hand and left hand like we've seen with
everything else we have a 4/4 time
signature which means four beats in a
measure and quarter note gets one beat
and then we got an f-sharp there if you
see that an f-sharp in the treble clef
and bass clef so that means we're in the
key of what hopefully you said the key
of G if you didn't know that I suggest
you look back at my last video lesson 26
or you look at the theory lessons which
went over the circle of fifths so here
we go I think we talked about everything
else two more things one you see that we
have a P there in the beginning that
means piano so we're gonna be playing
soft and then later it gets loud but
here's a tip for you when we're learning
these let's learn the notes first you
know we'll learn the right hand first
and then the left hand put them together
and then I want you to add in the
dynamics because when you're first
learning a piece and you're worrying
about notes it's more important to worry
about the notes than it is little
details and then then you can add in the
details later once you got the notes
down
so that's a little practice tip for you
so we're just gonna worry about the
right hand for right now this one we
have dotted quarter notes maybe I should
have done in a dotted quarter
explanation maybe that will be coming up
soon maybe I'll make a supplementary
video for it so anyways we have a dotted
quarter note and then a bunch of eighth
notes if you remember back to like
lesson eleven or seven I don't know how
16 something like that it was way back
when we talked about eighth notes I
suggest you watch that lesson again
because it goes over how you count
eighth notes and one of the things you
have to do is you have to split up each
beat into two halves to be able to count
half a beat and you do that with the
term and so say we have a measure of
four quarter notes that would just go
one two three four if you split them all
into eighth notes now you would count it
as one and two and three and four and
like this you're doing is you have the
same amount of beats but you're
splitting it up into two sirs fitting it
twice as many notes into one beat so how
we count this dotted quarter is this
gets on the entirety of beat one and the
first half of beat - meaning that the
next eighth note hits on the end of two
so how you're gonna do it is you're
going to count one and/or while you'll
count one two that that to the second
half of two will is where that a will
hit that eighth note so it will go one
two and now I'll count the rest the
measure
so once again one two so that's how
you'll do that it's not only dotted
quarter rhythm I see and the songs thus
far I think there's another one in the
next example so that's just how you'll
count that so practice that one measure
two three and that will kind of help you
get that dotted quarter quarter rhythm
like I said I might make a separate
video just on dotted quarter notes but
we shall see so now we got a left-hand
part oh no we have to talk about the
rest of the right hand sorry I got
sidetracked there so you got G with one
I'll go over this like normal and then
you got a with to be you three C with
four D with five and B of three and then
you're gonna shift your thumb down to
hit D with one and then you got G with
three a with four and then you got two
on F is that f you said F that's
completely wrong a lot completely wrong
but it's wrong because remember that we
have a sharp in the key signature so
we're going to be hitting F sharp the
two and then you got a before G 3 F
sharp again with two and then one so
you'll kind of tuck your thumb under
edgy with one
nevermind here's another dotted quarter
um I can't believe I didn't see it
before so you're gonna do is you're
gonna count to same rhythm as before so
let's go over the notes
- beta 3c with one and then you got D
with two and then you got a no - what
does that top line there if you said f
that is wrong because it's f sharp just
kind of trying to drill this in your
heads because it's something important
to look after because if you play it
with just F regular F F natural as it's
known it won't sound quite right and
then you got g5 we're in the
next-to-last measure here and then you
got G with one below and then you're on
the last measure you're going to count
out it's important you count this
measure because I kind of did this on
purpose where we have just a note at the
very end of the measure just to make
sure you're counting so what you're
gonna do is you're gonna count one two
three four and that's all that that note
falls on there beat four so let's move
on to the left hand so you're gonna play
G with five B with three and D with one
beat the bottom number corresponds with
the bottom note middle number middle
note and top number corresponds with the
top note and that happens to be AG major
chord here's another tip for you if
you're wondering what key you're in
because there is a putt there's really
two main possibilities for every key
injury of a major and a minor but what
you want to do is you want to look at
the first corner you also want to look
at the last chord you have and 95% of
the time the first and last chord will
be whatever key you're in so if you have
a generator you're probably going to be
every time but most times so and then
you got the next measure you got f-sharp
at the bottom don't forget about that
and then you got B with 2 and D with one
play the next one remove up to hit B
with 5 e with 2 and
and the last one we played this chord
before actually no we dint sorry I'm
like you got B of 5 D with 3G so very
easy to count these and then you got G
with 1 and remember at the fourth beat
of this measure so you hit G with one
two three and then you'll hit that last
you
up top so here we go let's try the whole
thing nice and slow we're not gonna add
in dynamics yeah I'll add that on the
next time around so here we go yeah so
let's just get started
there you go not too bad let's add in
the dynamics which is the piano in the
Forte there so starting out soft
three or counted out that last measure
just so you get that you play it one
more time and I'm gonna count the rhythm
for you so we got that I'm gonna count
the rhythm with the top hand whether
right hand the bottom one doesn't really
need any counting because it's just
whole notes so it's gonna go
four to three or so that's how you'll
count it let's move on to the next one
if you notice this should look very
similar like I stated before that the
top melody and the right hand is the
same so we don't have to go over that
again if you need to go over that you
can go over it in the beginning of this
lesson so let's just talk about the left
hand real quick so you got G with five
and is it f with one no F sure you're
going to when you hit D with three you
need to tuck under your thumb to be able
to hit B with one and that's so you have
enough it G with five and the next
measure
Oh God f with one no f-sharp
you got three two
when you hit D with three got to tuck in
like before to hit B with one your thumb
there we go so from beginning to end
with the left hand it should sound like
this
remember on that last year you want to
get off at beat too because we have a
quarter note but then we have a quarter
rest and then a half rest after so
you're only gonna be playing that so
let's try it very carefully with both
hands together let me think so the
important thing you want to do is when
I'm replating play a piece of music
always say wait wait a second let me
think about what I'm doing so that's the
most important thing you look at you
know what Shar puts flat things like
that before you start what key signature
in what time signature whatever so let's
just give it a try
they're not too bad now let's add in the
dynamic so what are dynamics that's how
loud you play of course so we got F F
Forte in the beginning but it is enough
and then you have a de crescendo also
known as a diminuendo all the way down
to P and s mo so we're starting out loud
now we're getting a saw almost as soft
as we can - penis about the end so here
we go
so there you have it those are two
examples for today as always you can
leave me any concert questions of
getting a lot of comments that can't get
to all them
fortunately wish I could but so anyway

maybe we're doing some D major scale or
we're doing more G major examples I'm
