THERE'S A NEW SPORT
IN TEXAS HIGH SCHOOLS

AND THESE STUDENTS ARE HERE TO
GIVE IT THEIR BEST SHOT.
The kids have taken to it just like
a duck to water.
We’ve more than doubled the number
of attendants from last year
because it's a sport that can be
done for the rest of your life.
It is catching on in schools.
When I first started I had
a few students
that had never shot a
shotgun before.
And there’s a lot of camaraderie
between the students as they shoot
and they support one another
in the program.
SHARP SHOOTERS FROM AROUND
TEXAS ARE COMPETING
IN THE STATE FINALS,
2 DAYS OF NONSTOP
SHOOTING ACTION.
This is the real thing.
A video game gives you an idea
of what it might be like
but when you actually are
squeezing that trigger
and the rounds are going off...
[Pull!]
you see the clay target
actually break,
it’s a whole ‘nother level.
It’s higher than what the video games
could ever hope to be.
THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE GAVE
SCHOOLS THE GREEN LIGHT
TO SPONSOR OFF-CAMPUS
SHOOTING SPORTS.
TO PARTICIPATE, STUDENTS MUST FIRST
PASS A HUNTER EDUCATION COURSE
WHERE THEY LEARN GUN SAFETY.
The more you know about a gun,
know how to treat a gun,
the safer you’ll be with it.
LIKE ANY SPORT,
STUDENTS SHOW THEIR PRIDE
THROUGH TEAM SHIRTS,
SCHOOL RINGS, AND EVEN A
LETTERMAN'S JACKET.
With a score of 198 points....
COACHES AND STUDENTS SAY
THE COMPETITION
IS GETTING BETTER EVERY YEAR.
SO WHAT IS IT ABOUT THE SPORT
THAT'S CATCHING ON?
It helps a lot with your reflexes,
your hand-eye coordination,
by the time you see the bird
you're already moving.
And it helps a lot in your
mental game.
It’s not something
everybody else does.
There’s no handicap for girls.
You don’t shoot less targets.
You shoot just like the boys do
and you play with the big dogs.
AND SPEAKING OF BIG DOGS...
My next goal is to shoot
more USA shooting
so I can be on the
USA Olympic team.
