Virtually all firearm incidents
can be avoided if
we follow a few simple, basic
gun handling rules.
When we're in and around our vehicles
the safest way to transport our
firearms is in a case,
unloaded with our actions open.
In addition to the gun transportation
rules that we just discussed
there's another aspect of safety
and that's our ammunition safety.
It's important to keep your
ammunition separate from your firearm
while in transport.
As you can see, my firearm is
in its case. It's unloaded
and the action is open.
There's a few more safety rules
we need to follow.
The first one and the cardinal rule,
is to always keep your muzzle,
or the end of the barrel,
pointed in a safe direction
at all times.
Our second rule is to assume
every firearm is loaded.
And finally, we're going to keep
our finger off the trigger
until we're ready to shoot.
These rules also apply when
coming back to your vehicle.
Again, you're firearm is unloaded
and the action is open
and your firearm goes
back in its case.
Don't become a statistic,
sometimes we don't get
a second chance at safety.
