today is a historic day for for the
Wildlife Division in state parks because
this is one of our more significant
wildlife conservation efforts where
we're collaborating with state parks to
re-introduce the species that hasn't
been here in decades and capture and
bighorn sheep of course and we're
transplanting them to Big Bend ranch
State Park you care about bighorn sheep
because they're part of our natural
history out here in West Texas they were
here long before any of us showed up
they're part of the natural ecosystem
out there and of course that's part of
our job part of our mission is to
instore those species have been out here
and and of course bighorn sheep is you
know their their flagship species for
these mountains
you have to block the blindfold help
number one is a thief animals come and
also you see all the dust flying around
from the helicopters it also keeps the
dust out of their eyes our bighorn sheep
restoration program has been very
successful and so this is just one of
those steps in the process there's a lot
of other private land tracks and public
land tracks we hope to to restore sheep
do someday
most of these sheep are being fitted
with radio transmitter so with with grad
students with cooperative research
projects with solo State University
we're going to be tracking these animals
to see the habitats they are utilizing
and where they're going to make sure
that we have complete knowledge about
sheep habitat utilization and the
preferences we've also got partners out
here like Texas veterinary medical
diagnostic lab and then taking blood
samples we're trying to get some
baseline information from these animals
there were no more about the day
pathogens if these animals have been
exposed to that's important for future
restoration projects get around the Rams

on fighting trying to process them
quickly and get them into the trailers
they can cool down quickly and they'll
recover very quickly okay guy he's

was here many years ago to return to
this grounds looks beautiful park here
the mountains it was just very touching
it really was I mean I was just excited
to see them released here that we're
being part of the history being made and
I mean watching them go up that mountain
side very impressive seeing those little
white rooms just jump jump moving so
fast something we've never seen or hat
out here before the animals never cease
to amaze me there they're a very unique
some people call them the keystone
species to to this type of habitat and I
never get tired of watching them well
she / a native animal to Texas there one
that probably is the most rare of the
big game species in Texas they were
completely eliminated from the state
beginning in the early 1900s and you
know they're just a magnificent species
one of the most rare and we're just
happy to be a part of bringing them back
we're doing the right thing at Big Bend
ranch
