Italian Course Beginner Series Lesson 16: The Italian Spelling Chart Video Lecture | Learn Italian Language: For Beginners and Travellers

hello my name is Claudio and welcome to
another Italian tutorial this one is not
actually a tutorial this is a present
guys and the present is called the
Italian spelling chart it's a little
idea of come up with because I told you
that in Italian you have one-to-one
correspondence between writing so
spelling and pronunciation so every
sound is spelled in only one way and
given a certain spelling you know
exactly how to pronounce it even if you
have never seen the word before this is
a table this is a this is a chart with
all these sounds in Italian so these are
all the sounds in the Italian language
and basically this is how they're
written so for instance if you want to
say path in Italian you know that it's
this sound here of course in order for
you to be able to pronounce all these
sounds you need to know how to pronounce
the Italian bowels there is a video on
the Italian vowels but basically they
are pronounced ah
ay-ee-ohh-ohh so for instance the sound
cha the sound cha is the sound the
English sound sure like in chair plus
the Italian sound or like in no which is
now in English so how do you write cha
you write it like this see IO and every
time you see see IO exactly this
combination of letters in Italian you
know that you have to pronounce ciao
and the story you see things become a
little tricky when it comes to
pronouncing sounds like
so for instance c plus a is car c plus o
is car but c plus i is chi not ki so
yeah you have to be careful there are
sounds that do not exist in english such
as r nu + y and z so these last sounds
are a little bit more difficult for you
to pronounce so you're going to have to
practice a lot but other than that
basically here you have a really nice
table you don't have to learn it by
heart of course the purpose of this
video is to give you something that you
should copy out or at least print and
basically throughout the course it's
going to be very easy for you to go back
to this and you know make sure that
you're pronouncing all the words
correctly and if you have a doubt and
you don't know how to pronounce a
certain particular word you've never
encountered you can come back to this
and have a look and see oh okay this is
how I have to pronounce it so I hope
