between ratio and fraction because both
of them looks similar so we say that 1
by 2 is a ratio 2 by 1 and 0 2 is 2 3 is
a ratio and all of these look exactly
like a fraction so how is the ratio
different than a fraction the ratio
compares to quantity so whenever you
talk about ratio you are actually
comparing two independent quantities so
whereas when you talk about the fraction
it gives part of a whole now you make
mind these two might sound like the
general definition of ratio and fraction
so let us take these examples so let's
see that this boy named in each one
slice out of the 5 slices of a pizza so
basically he ate 1/5 of the pizza so
what is this 1/5 this 1/5 is not a whole
number
so whole number is 1 that is the
complete pizza so he ate some part of
this whole pizza
that is one part out of the five parts
of this pizza so this is not a whole but
this is part of a whole so this 1 by 5
is nothing but a fraction perfect let's
say that there is not a boy being and he
ate 3 slices out of the 5 sizes of the
pizza so he ate 3/5 of the pizza so
again here also in a similar way this 3
by 5 is a fraction so what do we see
fraction is always about part of a whole
not a whole number but some part of that
whole number but what about ratio now if
I tell you that you have to compare the
amount of pizza eaten by a 2 the amount
of pizza eaten by B so what does the
ratio of pizza eaten
to the rich to the pizza eaten by be so
if you find out the ratio now why are we
finding this ratio we will find this
only when we want to compare the amount
of pizza eaten by a and B now comparison
at one level would be this that since
three by five is greater than 1 by 5
that means B ate more pizza but how much

compare by division that how many times

is equal to 3 by 5 into 5 by 1 so this
is equal to 3 by 1 or 3 is to 1

equal to 3 is to 1 so this 3 is to 1 in
some ratio because it is comparing two
different quantities that is it is
comparing the amount of pizza eaten by a
and B so these are two different
quantities all together which are
getting compared but in these a fraction
fraction is like a number that is how
much exert in a deed so 1 by v was a was
is considered as one complete number
like 1/5 of the pizza so that one proved
is a fraction because it is part of a
whole but here when you say 3 is to 1 so
3 is to 1 is not 1 number 3 is to 1
determines where 3 tells you that amount
eaten by B and 1 tells you the amount
eaten by a so these are not exact
amounts but they give you an idea about
how much did a and B each respectively
