have learned so much about symmetry and
how do we find which object has symmetry
and which object doesn't but where do we
use symmetry so do we ever use symmetry
the first thing is I already told you
that a lot of objects which exist in
nature they already have symmetry and
there are a lot of things where we use
symmetry for example there are goalie
designs now specially in India it is a
very common thing to during the
festivals that we make design patterns
using colors like something like this
so these are some examples of rangoli
designs so when you look at these
designs minutely you would see that all
of these designs have symmetry so let us
look at the first design so when you
look at this design you see think of a
line a vertical line like this and you
would see that it divides it exactly
into two equal halves similarly when you
think of this line a diagonal line
passing through the center of the design
you again see that it divides it into
two equal halves so basically how these
design patterns are needles you make a
small part and then you kind of make
mirror images of that part to make the
whole image so in a similar way if you
look at the next design which which we
have here so here also you can very
distinctly see the lines of symmetry now
not only these try to absorb more
rangoli patterns or design patterns that
you see around yourself not only for
these colorful dranconis but many times
you have these kind of designs on your
clothes or bed sheets so try to observe
them and see if they are symmetrical or
not and most of the designs are
symmetrical another application of
symmetry is a kaleidoscope now what is
the span Edo scope it's a Canadore scope
is a device basically it is it is a
device which is normally used by
children and
they find it really fun to look into the
Toledo scope and then you keep rotating
the tube and you get to see different
patterns different colorful patterns now
I'm sure all of you would have played

kaleidoscope so anyways in a thyroid or
scope what we do is this is how a
generally your kaleidoscope look like so
you have this tube like structure you
look through this hole and this tube is
can be rotated so the moment you keep
rotating the tube what happens is you
get to see many different colorful
patterns as you rotate the pattern keeps
changing so using many different types
of patterns so how does this happen so
basically this is how the tube is so you
look from one end of the tube and inside
the tube you have two or more reflecting
surfaces basically mirrors so mirrors
are arranged at an angle to each other
like here you see one two three so these
are these three mirrors which are
arranged in such a way that they are
inclined to each other at an angle so
you have three mirrors right forming the
three faces of this tube and then what
you do is some colored pieces of glass
maybe some broken pieces of a bangle so
so you take those colored pieces of
glass and you put them inside this tube
like here you see these are the colored
pieces of glass so these are pieces of
glass and we generally prefer to keep
them in different colors like red green
blue different colors glass pieces are
placed inside now what happens is these
glass pieces these colors they get
reflected by these three mirrors so
there is not there's not a single major
presence inside there are three mirrors
so basically an image is formed in this
mirror which that image acts as an
object for the other mirror so again
another image was formed in this manner
in that axis
object for the third mirror so in this
fashion multiple reflections take place
inside and as a result we get to see
some pattern of those colors red green
blue etc now what happens is the tube
outside is placed over the middle
arrangement in such a way that the tube
can be rotated now when you rotate the
entire cell these causes motion of the
particles so these small particles they
are just kept inside they they are not
attached to any mirror and everything so
they are just placed inside so the
moment you rotate the tube what happens
the particles keep moving and when the
particles move the patterns that you see
that also keeps changing and which gives
fun for kids so this is how the Caddy

angle to each other what happens is the
images that are formed in one mirror and
the images form at the other mirror they
are they are all symmetric and many such
symmetric images together form a
complete image like when you look at
this particular pattern so it actually
consists of small small parts which are
formed by separate mirrors but these
parts are symmetrical to each other so
this is our symmetry plays a role and
because of symmetry we are able to see
the complete pattern which we actually
