18 WordPress 101 Changing the Theme Video Lecture | WORDPRESS Premium- Tools and Tips - IT & Software

hello and welcome to this my theme shop
video screencast in today's video I'm
going to be showing you how to change
your WordPress theme now thankfully
WordPress make this very simple and from
your WordPress dashboard you want to
click on appearance now it's going to
take you to the theme section of the
dashboard and here we have to see all of
the themes that you've got installed as
well as install new themes and if you've
just purchased a theme from my theme
plot for example then you want to add a
new theme and you can just do that by
pressing the add new button up at the
top there you'll then need to upload a
theme typically and you can just choose
the file that you've downloaded from the
my team shop member area and select the
zip file and just click install now in
order to do that once you're done it's
going to take you back to this screen
here you can also add new themes from
the WordPress theme repository should
you wish and these are free themes and
you can either search for themes here or
just scroll down in order to load those
up you just need to click install in
order to add those
but changing a theme that you've already
got installed on your site now has a
slight distinction between installed and
activated a theme that as its installed
is not running on your site it's just
available to you when your theme that is
activated is the one that you are using
so you can see now the one I have active
is the e-commerce theme by my theme shop
but in order to change it to another
theme such as clean app then I can do
two things here by hovering over I can
activate or I can see a live preview now
but by clicking the live preview button
this is going to take me to a separate
page where I can see what the theme will
look like without actually activating it
so I can see a preview of the theme here
and I can also do things such as change
the site identity the colors menu
widgets and with widgets is just worth
noting that every time you change your
theme
any old widgets you've got are going to
move to the inactive widgets section and
you're going to need to drag and drop
those widgets on to your active widget
areas which you can do just under
appearance and then widgets you're going
to find inactive widgets just halfway
down the page
and you just change your static front
page and so on here and I can do that
without actually activating it on the
site this is a great way of trying out
new themes if you then want to activate
you can then click Save and activate or
to go back you can just close out there
and you'll see I'm still running
ecommerce at the moment so to activate
the theme from this section of the site
all you need to do is just click
activate here and WordPress is now going
to activate that it's now going to
trigger any notices that come up you're
lost to see new theme has been activated
and I visit my site then I'm gonna see
that I've got this new theme showing up
here and that's what it looks like on my
site and if I want to switch back it's
really just a case of clicking activate
on the theme that I wish to change back
to and if we just refresh this then
we're gonna see a lot site has changed
instantly and you can then get on with
any theme setup that you need to do you
can also search install themes or just
scroll down in order to see which themes
you've got installed for additional
details if you just click on additional
details there then you can see a
description as well as a screenshot of
the site as well as a version number
there on the right hand side that's
really all there is to it's really
simple to change your WordPress theme
and you just need to make sure you've
added the theme installed the theme if
you've purchased it from my theme shop
but just need to upload it
having downloaded it from the my theme
Shop member area my theme shop comm / go
slash remember otherwise you can install
a theme from the WordPress theme
repository just by clicking add new and
doing a search there to activate you
just need to press activate and you can
live preview in order to see what it
will look like without actually showing
the change on your website so those two
