3 Quick Tips on How to Draw Faster Video Lecture | Develop Drawing Skills: Basics to Expert - Art & Craft

now I'm doing this tutorial at the
request of my subscribers who asks me
how can they draw faster um now that is
an interesting question because um I I
don't encourage that you draw faster but
when I do final is that there are times
when students draw or we tend to draw a
lot slower than we could because in most
cases I find this because we are
focusing on details and also without a
doubt lack of practice you know that's
the number one way of course you know
when it's all said and done the more you
practice doing something the more you
know it becomes second nature and the
easier it is for you to do and the
easier it is for you to do the finals
you'll be able to do it
so with that would practice out the way
which you have to except you have to
practice tirelessly okay and
exhaustively like you cannot get tired
of it um that's the number one thing
that you should do okay now just some
tips however on how you can advance your
drawing pretty quickly
now what I find with a lot of times is
that people sometimes focus on little
details so three things that I think are
really useful when you are trying to
increase the speed of your drawing is to
think of proportions okay so one is
proportions so what I mean by that um
you should try to get into the habit of
learning how to divide things up pretty
quickly
judging measurements so for example you
should be able to judge the half
distance halfway point of something like
for example some common divisions that
I'd really encourage students to be able
to make yes um half quarter and
one-third like those are perhaps the
most common types of measurements I
usually use in my drawings and I advise
you to you know get comfortable with
being able to divide a line in quarters
really easily or thirds really easily
you know and that means vertically or
horizontally
you should really practice trying to
divide things into
thirds halves and quarters really
quickly so that means for example I'm
able to draw the head like an assignment
for example really quickly because of
proportions and as a result of that my
drawing will advance really quickly so
for example once I have the circle I
divide it in half see that I can find a
point and I make sure I measure the same
distance 1 2 3
say that's thirds draw a line like that
and you see the head is pretty much
already there see that so once you can
you know get a sense of where you know
make these basic measurements you can
pretty much be able to execute things a
lot more easily and a lot quicker and it
goes for drawing anything you know
always set out your your high and low
points the highest point if your drawing
and determine where the half point is
and that will give you a good idea of
okay where you're drawing well what
space you're drawing will occupy see
proportions is perhaps the most
overlooked but perhaps the most
important element or component of
drawing to be honest because you know
you can have a you can draw the nose and
it's you know or the eye and it's it's
beautifully rendered but the proportions
are off it will look weird and you will
not be satisfied with it but you can
have an eye that's loyal proportion and
not shade well but it seems more
pleasing than one that's not so for
example proportions and even like when
knocking out the head for example if you
can memorize the basic proportions for
the head like you know for the entire
body like you know the body you can
divide it up into say eight parts you
can easily start framing it out you know
just by having an idea of where things
are because you know the knees will be
there and the foot will be here in the
thighs and you know you can basically
get a good idea of where things will be
just by having proportion so that will
really help to like speed up your
drawings big time so you know I would
say get comfortable with being able to
judge the half point quarter point and
third of your joints of the entire space
really quickly and that applies to the
overall drawing and that applies to
parts of the drawing so for example you
can divide the entire length of the head
in halves and quarters and you can even
divide that here itself into halves and
quarters you can divide the nose into
halves and quarters and that will help
you map things out really quickly
and from there it would just be a matter
of connecting the dots so they mean and
that will advance your job pretty
quickly
another thing to use to speed up your
drawing process is to focus on structure
okay focus on big and simple shapes and
forms okay so for example you're drawing
the ear you think of a sea first before
you do anything so I mean you don't go
into making the little details and
starting before you know it you know
you're lost in the details or sometimes
what you'll find is if you start with
these detail the joint can easily spin
out of control
but if you follow proportions and you
put in your high and low point you know
your drawing will only occur in this
space you know the half point will occur
there so you're already containing how
things relate
you're already pre setting pretty
determining how things will relate to
each other
in terms of size and shape and so on
really quickly see and then by putting
in this sea you know you're already
putting in the basic shape that will
enclose the entire drawing
soon I mean so this helps a lot and and
also you can even break this into
smaller parts so say for example you can
have a part like that see and then you
can divide it up into another part like
like that and then like that you see and
just having those one two three four
shapes enable you to already have a good
sense of where things will be and then
you already have your ear there soon I'm
saying so by having just same thing with
the eye if you already put in terms of
proportion
you put the where you know that I will
end see that you're putting the
horizontal limits then you can put the
vertical limits as well so you know the
I won't go beyond this point you won't
go below this point and then you can
already start sketching it in but see
what I did i discussion a basic shape
see I'm not going into detail draw the
iris I'm just drawing basic shapes see
so I'm thinking big and simple what's
the big enveloping or encompassing shape
what's the shape that contains
everything saying that's how you draw
things really quickly drawing the nose
you think of okay wants to shape that
contains the entire nose it may be
something like that and then you can
divide that up into even smaller shapes
see and then you think of the
proportions again the half
you know the tip starts at the half
point and it ends right there see so
this is where the the nose may end see
what I mean and and in you know just by
making that shape and making those
measurements I already can go in just by
something this simple I can go in and
start shaping in the nose pretty quickly
see so you know that helps a lot and
also they think big and simple shapes
okay and you also think big in simple
forms so for example you know like like
I always tell you guys use the block or
the cylinder and so on so for example
you could be drawing a table and all you
may need to do is you think of okay
where am i drawing beginning where will
it end okay and you may put a half point
there just to look at what you're
drawing and then you may figure that it
looks something like this see I'm making
a overall box but my table will be
included in that see however you want to
you know make it what the point is it's
contained within this basic shape or
form see that speeds up your drawing big
time because you won't have to you know
is it same thing like if you're drawing
a tree you always try to think of what's
the overall shape of this tree okay and
then you can go in and start breaking
this up into smaller parts and then from
there you know it's just a matter of
shaping things out mapping things out
and then you know everything will start
filling out after that but you get the
idea
you know the main proportions the
overall shape and then you go from there
then in terms of your shading that's the
other part that you use to you know
simplify or speed up your process so for
example your shading is best - you can
choose how you want right but it's it's
best practice to advance your drawing as
a whole so you're thinking of the entire
thing you're advancing the entire
drawing and as you go forward so for
example you're going to draw a even a
shade a sphere right you first first
thing you should do I would advise you
do is to separate
light from shadow see and that already
starts you know that already starts
shaping out the volume shapes out the
structure all that stuff so you just
separate in other words you think of two
values white and black or light and
shadow that's it
you're not thinking of the subtle
gradations and how stuff it moves into
and where the highlight you're not
thinking about all that stuff yet you
just separate light from shadow for
example you even drawing the head you
can even sometimes like a lot of people
do that you use shadow shapes you can
you can notice the shape of the shadow
around the eyes you can see the shadow
of the nose under the nose you know you
can see the shadow under the upper lip
and under the lip see that and that
alone gives you a sense of the overall
structure of the person's head already
see what I mean and this is just
imagining that a light is shining from
up top it is shining down so you're
seeing these shadow shapes so what I'm
doing is I'm not paying attention to the
salties you know in terms of light and
dark I'm just paying attention to the
separation of light and shadow and that
alone gives you some definition already
so you know Able's you to advance your
drawing really quickly instead of paying
attention to that the subtle gradation
in tone that goes from the tip of the
yellow so focus on that the overriding
overriding concept here is simple to
complex and it's actually to be honest
it's really complex to simple to complex
meaning you look at reality which is
complex you break it down to simple
things and you reconstruct it using
these simple things so you break down
what you see two simple forms simple you
know construction simple elements and
then you combine those simple elements
back to convey or create the illusion of
reality and you know that I think will
help a lot and this applies to drawing
anything yes I
