Ruffled Pink Flower Mini Painting Full Tutorial Video Lecture | Master the Art of Watercolour Painting (English) - Art & Craft

hi there Lindsay you're the frugal craft
Derek today we're gonna do a mini
painting and this is by Christine coffee
and it's called the flower I'm just
looking at some paint my father the
flower of fir bhujiya and it looks very
much almost like hyacinth paper he
leaves but it's almost like a rose with
how how you know the rose the buds are
so we're gonna go ahead and sketch in a
couple of these rose buds I am just
using a watercolor pencil and getting
the buds and getting the leaves around I
did a little warm-up a minute ago and
I'm not sure if I'm going to post it it
was a bit of paradise but it I didn't
really like the way it came out
you ever have ones like that hopefully
this one comes out better um I'm just
gonna start at the center of this flower
it's got some really just roughly
roughly leaves I'm thinking I might
actually do this one completely add more
color pencils I'm just kind of having
fun warming up painting you know just
summertime fun painting not really
worrying too heck of a lot about
anything and went to the beach yesterday
it was a great time I'm definitely still
in Beach mode is very hard to come down
to my studio today because it's sunny
and beautiful and there's a lovely
breeze and I think I'm gonna go outside
and read after this because it's just so
nice out I actually would bring my
camera out and do my tutorial outside
except I'm just a little afraid that
that the Sun might be a little too
bright and might be too hard for me to
judge my my colors and whatnot alright
I'm gonna throw in a couple of little
leaves here maybe just one this isn't
very big
I'm much used to painting larger usually
a watercolor cards this smells like oh
and this is three and a half by five and
a half two fifties I need little frames
that I found in my stash so I bought
tons of them years ago because I used to
make these little watercolor minis I
used to sell it like art fairs
for like five dollars and I kind of felt
like doing some of those again because
they were just really fun and free and I
just really enjoyed them okay so I think
I will use some paint I've got my yoga
palette here I think I'm just gonna
slide it over
palate there but I was just feeling like
it was too hard to see maybe if I do
like this and you can see Mike should
figure this out before I started to film
but wow you you guys all know me I'm
just kind of a little random alright
let's start off with some of these
pedals over here I'm gonna use this it's
kind of like a crimson or maybe a
crewneck or doing rows either where
those colors will be fine and you know I
think now I think I'm gonna go ahead and
add some color right adjacent to another
petal I'm just kind of drag it upward I
guess so as I start running out of color
my petals will get lighter put a little
bit more color if I want to add color
I'll just add it where it's near another
petal and then I'll get that nice
gradient look a little water to my brush
yeah nice and juicy color of course this
would be really pretty just to do with
the pencils I could just add a little
color in that area you know where the
petals overlap and then I'd have that
nice gradiation so you could do that if
you just want to do this in pencil if
you're feeling like using the juicy
paint go ahead and do that then the last
thing about the paint though actually or
pencils as long as you get it wide
enough is that I can use my credit card
scraper to scrape in some of those
people II take three lines one thing I
have to do today I have to go to the
grocery store
it's like desperate I'm out of swim
though I'm at actually the kids are in a
regular milk I'm almost out of soy milk
so yeah that's four times can you see
that good enough I hope you can not like
you could really answer me I guess you
could in the comments below but that's
kind of two lakes I've already filmed a
video at that point again still using
that red and a little bit up there too
you can actually add a little more
pigment anywhere you feel like you want
some wrinkles in the leaves
oh let's add a little bit back there so
you see that kind of like turn
leaf and actually you know you could
also go in with your pencil and add some
veining that way too because it will
deposit a little bit of pigment by the
time it will deposit a little bit of
pigment and then you get you also get
that kind of wrinkly shading scribing so
there's one petal done actually I think
that looks pretty darn awesome all right
let's continue on in that method for
another petal let's do this one over
here let's wit it whatever yeah I always
keep thinking wet it and forget it like
set it and forget it you know run Ronco
I can't report thing he had what was it
like a convection oven or a rotisserie
chicken thing you remember Ronco like
the wrong Ronco guy you still like do
these infomercials and you know you'd be
like so inspired to like buy whatever
he's buying or cook whatever he's
cooking by the time you're done by the
time you're done watching it and you
know then you might actually order that
thing and be completely disappointed we
got we ordered that Ron Ronco pasta
maker I think my husband got it for me
for my birthday one year before we were
married even and I was so excited
because I'm like oh I want to make my
own healthy pasta my help my own healthy
whole-wheat pasta and you know soy pasta
and stuff cos estephe is so expensive
and hard to find and I promised a little
at that first part guy before he did
this overturn part but anyways so we
ordered that thing and it was such a
nightmare and it would like dance across
the kitchen counter whenever I tried to
use it because it was the you know it
said you can make whatever kind you want
so you know the ones he made in in the
infomercial of course with the eggy you
know semolina flour ones and I wanted to
use whole wheat flour no eggs because
you know I'm vegan and or you know or I
want you soy flour I want to use all
that stuff and it would just like be
over take the Machine the machine would
be bouncing around the table it was such
a frustrating experience as most of my
cooking experiences are I was I was so
bummed its but but it was so expensive
that it's still sitting in our garage
because we can't bear to part with it
because and back then you know when we
were
newlyweds we were you know getting ready
to get married you know whatever it was
$150 or whatever I mean that well it's
still a lot of money but that like back
then especially was a lot of money and
so it's like you know oh my dreams of
being a gourmet pasta chef er shattered
you know so you know you spend that much
money and you have such high hopes and
it's so disappointing when that happens
I know everybody's had some sort of
experience like that was something maybe
even with art supplies so you know
hopefully I can help you with the art to
supply you know issue if you ever have a
problem with you know getting your
money's worth out of your art supplies I
hate that when you think you've got you
know you've spent money on something and
you think you've you know you're so
hopeful that you're gonna make something
really awesome and then it doesn't turn
out very well which is usually my
experience with cooking I find myself
very frustration it's just cookie yep
and sometimes you know I think I did one
come on to the paint
cooking is another story singing and
cooking I think those things don't know
if anyone can learn how to do that cuz
it seems like you got to have some
natural ability I don't know maybe
that's not the case I mean look these
interior pettit look I like the way that
looks I know but you know there's a
water pump I'm gonna posix I know how
irritating that sound is how many'd the
water pump stop yay her they're gonna
fire all right let's go Breen shall we
um you know what let's do the pencils
for this one let me just do a little
color color here oh my gosh to tell you
about the steal of a deal I got on these
so I already had said this is kind of
foolish you're gonna be like Lindsay
you're foolish I want to tell you about
this but I had gone to the stamp show in
any bargain bin at the Gary Berlin booth
I found a pack of like 18 or 24 of those
pencils and they were like ten dollars I
think they were 20 and they gave me a
deal
I think that's 10 or $20 anyways they
retail for like 45 for a pack that size
and I knew how awesome they were because
I have the set of 120 and and I have and
because I teach so many classes and
often times I have to bring my own
supplies in because I can't say hey why
don't you go spend 100 bucks on a parrot
set a watercolor pencil because I want
to use it in one lesson I mean I don't
feel right about that so I'll bring my
stuff and then if somebody is like oh I
really love watercolor pencils I think
I'm gonna get some that's great because
they've tried it and they know they can
use it but then if they're like you know
that's not for me I don't think I want
to go invest in those this is that same
like SAP green or hookers green use
whatever you have any palette they don't
have to because they've tried it and you
know they can make a decision whether
it's they're gonna like it or not based
on I like that
based on being able to try it my class
so I have doubled and I don't like to
take my 120 set of the all by drawer
watercolor pencils to class because
they're really expensive and all it
takes is somebody dropping it on the
floor to have a broken lead and you know
I'm not gonna worry about that so much
with my cheaper pencils or if somebody
you know does it with a set that I paid
10 bucks for so that's why I did it I
always feel like I need to not explain
or justify but I also you know I don't I
want you to know why I do what I do why
I buy the things I buy because you know
you might be in the same situation where
your teacher and you're thinking oh
should I get that extra set then you're
like well yeah that's kind of worth it
if I do that or you may decide I'm not a
teacher I don't need that extra set I'm
just sweating they the branches that I
already drew here so it's just just to
kind of give you a little perspective
there I am gonna use the pencils to
color in these little areas up here too
these are very high pigment load pencils
I don't think they're necessary for
everyone it just depends on I think
we're gonna do a lot of watercolor
pencil work they're not gonna wear as
quickly as like the reves of the Prima
Derwent wear is very slow but they don't
have I don't think they're quite as much
pigment load the intents are good I
think the intents are very similar I
think if you have intense I wouldn't
bother with the Albert drawers and if
you have that Albert drawers I wouldn't
bother with the intense you know
vice-versa
because they are very similar
although you know what I believe in
tents is actually like an ink so it's
waterproof on fabrics of course that
would you know I didn't need to go into
a big tangent Oh watercolor pencils but
here I am you know I just wanted to kind
of give you a little bit of a
information on the different pencils
there's so many you don't need to have
them all I mean I just I kind of a man I
don't know I just I like to try things I
know I know and sometimes not and you
can also use your watercolor pencils as
paint so if like you're traveling you
just want have a few things you can just
kind of wet your brush and you know see
look at that
and because it's a high pigment load I
can easily grab up some some color from
that and plus I tend to like the look of
a looser medium like watercolor so that
does give me that option and if you're
Stamper the watercolor pencils are going
to be more useful I believe then the set
of watercolor paints so it all depends
on you know what your hobbies are if
you're involved with other hobbies or
you just you know doing one or two yeah
basically what I'm trying to say that
I'm not always frugal and I'm trying to
make excuses for it because I know you
probably subscribe because it's got the
Furcal graft or not the Watts Lindsey
buy crap and you stuff I don't have
because that name doesn't have a very
good ring to it okay so now we're gonna
go ahead and work on these flowers and
you know what I think I'm gonna do here
because I showed you on the leaves or
the pencils let's try that with our
pencils here by adding pigment from the
pencil into our darker areas okay I'm
gonna do that here on these two because
they're not really touching there's a
little area there with a might overlap a
bit but not enough to cause us any
trouble
ooh that's pretty I like that color see
and that's that's kind of fun when you
like your your material so much that
you're constantly like amazed by what
they do alright I don't feel like I have
enough dark in there I could go back in
with a pencil why don't we do that
let's show you that you know add a
little more pigment that way
and I can even bring the veining into
the pigment there can what this to kind
of pump it up a little bit more I'm sure
it's what enough my credit card scraper
to do anything will try it no it's not
what enough to do anything let me add a
little more water and see if I can make
that happen it's a little bit I think
our pencils gave us quite a bit of quite
a bit of the the scrape describing lines
to which is which is nice yeah I like
that it's just subtle it's pretty and
you can see that there are different
lines in there do that with a pencil I
think I like the way it came with a
pencil I think when you have the paint
and it's wetter and it's you know
juicier you can scrape in your lines a
lot better with the with a credit card
so did you like that do you like think
that technique let's do that again show
you a couple more times let's see let's
put that towards the center because
these petals are kind of on top we can
go a little bit more forceful with our
color there but just in that area cuz we
do want to have a little bit my brush go
clear handle it's like invisible it's
like the you know it's Wonder Woman's
paintbrush here what she is an invisible
plane or something
it's my Wonder Woman paint brush I can't
look at me bait where's the brush
special effects good thing I don't have
the special effects abilities on my
camera I probably would be not a good
thing I'd probably get way too
interested in that that'd be cool don't
flip the painting just happened and you
couldn't see the brush that'd be kind of
funny that's probably a way to do it too
but I'm too lazy to figure it out
alright I'm thinking that that doesn't
these two petals need a little more
definition what I'm gonna do garden with
my pencil on the lower petal on the
lower petals just to add a little bit
more color in now if you are coloring on
damp paper it's going to be difficult to
remove that later so you want to make
sure that if you're doing that it's for
keeps
okay
okay let's see I'm I'm liking that I
think that's good I see that I forgot
this little guy over here so just just
what that area I think there'll be
enough pigment there to spread it around
now if you want to add a background at
this point you are more than welcome to
I think maybe I'll just do like a really
really watery kind of like cobalt blue
so I'm just grabbing a little bit off my
palette yeah I did I showed it in the
other video what I might not but I not
published that looks I'm not sure if I
liked it or not this is what it was I
painted this what do you think should I
show that should I publish that I'm not
sure um so I'm gonna use some of that
cobalt blue but i swatched him out here
so I could see how they really looked
but super watery because I really just
want a light tint of color I don't want
a lot I just want something and my I
have like a sweater on because my studio
is actually chilly it's beautiful sunny
outside but my studio so chilly and I am
just going to put a little bit of a
loose wash in here and since it's so
light I really don't have to worry about
getting too close to the to the focal
objects but this light blue wash just
that kind of brings out the texture of
the paper which i think is pretty and
I'm gonna put it in one of those
inexpensive little frames and you know
put it for five bucks in my shop you
know it's just kind of and it's kind of
a fun little trinket that somebody can
pick up and yeah it's tourist art it is
I'm not gonna say it's more than that
it's a pretty picture it's you know it's
something fun I'm gonna stick on the
fridge and you can remind you of your
vacation in Maine because it was painted
by somebody who lives in Maine not that
it necessarily is of something in Maine
although it does look an awful lot like
our wild Beach rose this kind of okay
and there you have it when it's dry it
