hi guys we are here for architecture
daily sketches thank you so much for
your engagement with last week's video
and to Carlos for suggesting our topic
this week which is sections now what
exactly is a section a section is
basically a cut of a building and it's
usually parallel to a picture plane now
just imagine cutting a cake and you'll
be able to see all the layers of sponge
and cream now it has this kind of
drawing has two aspects or purposes to
it one is to show the structural makeup
of the building itself and second is to
show the quality of the spaces within
the building
now the level of detail for both aspects
would vary depending on the purpose of
the drawing
it could be a technical section that we
show in great detail the beams the
joints the columns and foundations or
like for example this hand-drawn
technical section that I did some time
ago but for this video I will be
focusing more on the second aspect which
is trying to show the quality or the
idea of the space like for example you
could have an idea of jagged spaces of
variated cubic volumes or even a curvy
space
now these are fast sections intended for
capturing your ideas on the goal and
it's always easier to sketch an idea of
a section using a thick pen so that it's
already clear that it is a section I'm
just filling it here with some finer
line pen but even for its fast section
like this a semblance of structural
awareness in the idea is still possible
like for example the way that the roof
plane would rest on the wall plane and
how that would continue to the
foundation so not only is this good for
showing your ideas but it's also good
for showing the logic behind your ideas
now I'm going to attempt a simple
section sketch which shows the quality
of the space as well as an idea of the
structure there will also be some
contacts added using trees and human
figures which you can also learn how to
draw in the previous videos links are
below now first I'm going to attempt a
flat section or a two-dimensional
section just going to put this is an
idea of a pitched roof and here's a wall
maybe I want to put bands of windows
there perhaps a bench
huge windows there to open up to the
view threshold the foundation
okay guys some notes for the flat
section now even for a simple section
sketch it would always seem technically
convincing if it has the idea of the
roof the wall and the foundation again
this is just to show the logic behind
the idea would make your section more
convincing as well so now I'm going to
pull the lines for a one-point
perspective as with the previous video

always have to be aware of the two rule
of thumbs which is being aware of the
guide line to the vanishing point and
also for shortening but for now I'm
going to pull all the lines of the roof
beams and any other lines that will
follow the guide line to the vanishing
point

and now I'm going to create some depth
with adding some human figures and trees
just a bit of context
and just to finish it off a hatch for
the ground
and perhaps maybe even a hatch for the
concrete base and foundation just simple
little dots in there
so with a simple sketch like this you
are already able to communicate the idea
of the quality of the space and also the
structural makeup off the structure the
building and by adding contacts like the
ground the ground and also the human
figures you are adding scale environment
contacts so it becomes quite a complete
and convincing sketch so thank you so
