DRAWING MOUTHS PART 2! Coloured Pencil Drawing Tutorial Episode 11 Video Lecture | Become an Artist: Colored Pencil Portrait Drawing Tutorial - Art & Craft

hello everybody my name is Kirsty and
welcome back to my youtube channel so
I'm back with another tutorial for you
guys and this is a color pencil tutorial
and I'm going to be showing you part two
of drawing mouse and colored pencils so
last week I showed you how to draw a
baby's mouth and also a natural female
mouth and so this week I'm going to be
doing a female mouth but with lipstick
on and also a male's mouth and I'm going
to be showing you how you can draw
stubble and also blemishes so the
colored pencils that I'm using for this
tutorial is the Karen - luminance color
pencils but if you have prisoner colors
then you can use them as well they are
both wax based so they're very similar
tissue similar clothes to what I'm using
and you should get the same results so
the first thing that I'm doing is under
the female mouth and lipstick on and
because she's wearing lipstick you don't
have to worry so much about getting a
seamless transition between her lips and
the skin around it because when you use
lipstick you're creating that harsh line
so the first thing that I do is I use
the sepia color and this is a brownish
color and I use that to block in the
center line so the shadowed part of the
lips and then I'm going in with a
brighter red color and I'm using that to
fill in the top and the bottom lip but
I'm leaving where the highlights are
completely free of the red so a marker
malthus and I'm just not applying the
color pencil to where the highlights are
so I'm applying quite a lot of pressure
to that bright red color to get a full
coverage down and so it looks smooth
straight away and now I'm going in with
a darker red to do the shadows and I'm
just applying this where the shadows are
on my reference photo and you have got
to pay a lot of tension to your
reference photo to see where each mouth
has the shadows and the highlights
because it's not the same for every
mouth but it's important there you get
in the highlights and shadows to make it
look three-dimensional and realistic so
once I marked in where the shadows are
and added some of the creases I'm going
in with the white colored pencil and I'm
using that to block in some of the
highlights and add in a bit more shine
onto the lips and it's important that
when you've run in the creases that you
follow the curvature of the lips because
this will make them look
three-dimensional otherwise if you just
draw them straight then it will look
quite flat and unrealistic okay so I'm
finishing with the lips for now
I'm moving on to the skin around the
mouth so the first thing that I did was
I applied quite a heavy layer of the
Burt oak attempt scent and then I went
over the top and the shadowed regions
with the bird okay 50% and then further
darkest shadows under the bottom lip and
on the Cupid's bow I am using the burnt
sienna temp scent and the burnt sienna
50% and as I'm building up more and more
layers I'm using more pressure to get it
to blend seamlessly and blend all those
layers together to create a smooth
finish also where the skin was a bit
warmer I'm using more of their burnt
ocher 50%

okay so going back to the lips I'm using
the burnt sienna 50% crates from the
shadows and also the set here again and
I'm using the sepia to create some of
those creases in the skin and these
creases are what adds three dimension
and also texture to the lips so even
though she had lipstick on there is
still a bit of texture in the lips it
wasn't completely smooth so it's
important that you add in these creases
to make it look realistic
so I'm also using the step here to
transition from where I drew that harsh
center line to the rest of the skin as
well

okay so now login the white luminous
color pencil to the skin around the lips
so I'm using it on the Cupid's bow and
also just the skin directly around the
lips as well
so whoever wants a brighter highlight
I'm using more pressure on the white
pencil initiative as more of the white
color pencil to give me a brighter
highlights

okay so now I'm just going through and
added some details looking at my
reference photo and adding in more and
more details so more cracks and crevices
and some more highlights as well so once
I create the skin if I want to glaze
more colors over the top I use the side
of the pencil and this lays a layer of
color onto the skin without ruining all
the smoothness that you created or
underneath okay so now I'm going in with
the crafting knife and this is good to
create texture in the lips so what the
crafting knife does is it lifts the
layers of the wax off the paper so you
can use it to scrape layers off the
paper and this will lighten up those
areas and will give you some nice
highlights without it being too bright
so it's really good for adding texture
and I use this quite a lot for example
if I'm doing hair and I want to create
some highlighted strands or for facial
hair and stubble like I'll show you
later but for now I'm just using it to
create some of the cracks and some
texture in the lips

and now I'm going to with the white gel
pen and I just use this on the really
highlighted parts of the lips so don't
use it everywhere use only a little bit
and only use it where there's the harsh
highlights
so this tended to be where the skin was
a bit wetter so where the home light
bounced off the wetness of the skin and
this gives a really nice shine to the
lips as well and then I just go back in
with that crafting knife and the white
colored pencil to smooth out where I put
that white gel pen to scrape some of it
off so it doesn't look so harsh and just
make it look very very subtle okay so
now I'm moving on to the male's mouth
and the first thing I'm doing it again
is I'm using the step here to mark out
where the shadows and the creases are
and where the shadows a bit deeper I use
a bit more pressure on that sepia pencil
next I'm going in with the bird okay 50%
and I'm using this to establish where
the shadows are on the lips and male
lips tend to be a lot thinner than
female lips so they're not as full and
then I'm also using the burnt sienna 10%
and also the burnt sienna 50% to mark in
some of those shadows again and to add
the layers and add more foundation to
the lips so the male's lips tended to
have quite a Kulish tone to them but in
certain areas there was a bit more
warmth so I'm adding a lot of burnt
sienna as the foundation but then I
glazed over some burnt ochres to add a
bit more warmth to those certain areas
where there was warmth in the reference
photo and you'll notice that lips aren't
just one color they have a lot of
different tones and hues to them so it's
importantly you don't use a couple of
color pencils add quite a lot of
different tones to them to make them
look more realistic so good tones to use
can be been Sienna's vent ochres raw
Amber's are good for the shadows as well
but just look at your reference photo
and don't try and just use the same
clothes for every different person
because it won't work different people
have different skin tones and lip colors
so it's important that you
you choose your color pencils depending
on your reference photo so one of the
final layers that I applied on the lips
was the burnt ocher temp then and I use
this to smooth all the layers together
and get a really nice smooth finish and
then I'll work on the skin around the
lips so I added a lot of Raw on this so
I used the wall and the $0.50 the
majority of it and then in the even more
shadow part I use just the wall under
and this gives a really nice foundation
layer to the shadows and tells us
straight away where the shadowed regions
are and then I build on those shadows
with the birthday an attempt sin and
also the burnt sienna 50% and then in
the warmer parts again I use the burnt
ocher 50% to glaze over and add some
more warmth to the area

so now I'm just using the bird okay 10%
and I'm using this to smooth out the
hole of the skin around the area and you
can see where I applied the water embers
underneath this still shows through
you're just blending some more de burnt
ocher with the shadows so you can still
see where the shadows are even though
you've gone over the entire thing with
the burnt ocher 10% and as you can see
I'm trying to transition where the lips
are into the skin so it doesn't look
like there's a harsh line separating the
lips and the skin it looks like they
transition into each other really nicely
and that's all you're aiming for you
don't want there to be a harsh line you
want it to be very subtle and natural
and then I'm going in on the lips again
with the Ben C and a 50% to add in some
of those creases and I'm deepen it up
with the step here as well okay so now
I'm working on the stubble and the first
thing that I'm using is the burnt sienna
but this is a feather castell
polychromos pencil so for this pencil is
a really good one to use because
polychromos it really gives the detail
because they sharpen to a really sharp
point and maintain that point very well
so I used that to add some of the
stubble and I just use very light
strokes and I didn't use much pressure
at all in certain areas I used a bit
more pressure to get a variation between
the different hairs that I was creating
but on the whole I didn't use much
pressure and then I went in with the
sepia color and I just used that to add
in some darker stubble to add more
variation yes again and again I'm using
just little strokes and I'm going with
the direction that the skin is going in
and the way that the hair would
naturally grow and then I'm working on
the blemishes so the first thing that I
did was I applied a light layer of quite
a reddish color and I just glazed that
color over where the information of the
blemish was so when you're a blemish it
tends to be the area around the blemish
can be quite red as well so I just glaze
that over the top of where the areas of
the blemishes were and then I went in
with the burnt sienna and I use that to
create the shadow of where the blemish
was so if you have a spot it tends to be
that you have the shadow and also a
highlight to make it look bumpy and
three-dimensional so I added in a curved
motion with that burnt sienna and I just
used the white pencil to pick out some
highlights
and that's really all I did to create
these blemishes and it's a really
effective way of making them look
realistic and also really easy to do as
well and now I'm just going in with a
very sharp and luminance white color
pencil and I'm using that to pull out
the highlights in the lips and also add
some highlights to the areas around the
skin now it's very important to me that
I made the blemishes not look the same
so Edison variation so when I wanted
more of a subtle blemish I went over
with the brown okay and I just closed
that over the blemish and it really
softened it out and made it look more
subtle which meant that there was more
variation between the different types of
blemishes that I'd created

okay so now we're moving on to creating
more facial hair and more stubble and to
do that I'm using the crafting knife
once again so this as I said is really
good at pulling the wax off the paper
and so I'm using that in little strokes
to just pull up the wax and create
highlighted little head and this is
really good to also add sensation into
the lips as well because males lips tend
to have a bit more texture and roughness
and female lips not always but in
general males lips can have a bit more
texture so you can get away with adding
some more little cracks and crevices in
the lips and again when I'm creating
these creases on the lips I'm going with
the direction that the lips would go in
I'm not just doing it in straight lines
around the lips otherwise this wouldn't
look natural or realistic
