welcome to the second section about
tunnel scout here where I'm gonna be
going over my product research criteria
what I recommend for you guys as new
sellers to look for a new product
in the next video I'll be going over
more about which products to stay away
from but this'll just give you a brief
overview of what the best strategy for
you would be as a new seller so let's
hop in the computer here first of all

you go to your product database which is
your part of the web app so the product
tracker and the database are both part
of the $40 a month web app and yeah so
here you can see on the top it gives you
the examples for the different or the
different marketplaces most likely
you're gonna be selling on the US of
course Canada Germany and UK are also
all strong markets the US is the biggest
market and that's where a lot of people
tend to go especially for new sellers
because there's a lot more demand for
products and it can make it easier for
you to get a good product as your first
product even though there's more
competition in the US so this is what
it's gonna look like when you first come
on this page you can see we've selected
our market is the US and now for
categories there's a few categories that
I recommend to new sellers that are just
easier to deal with I'm just gonna
briefly go over those right now so the
first thing I would do is I would just
select all and just make sure that none
of these are selected just because I
find it easier to go through the list
and select the ones that I think are
best rather than going through and
deselecting all the ones that I wouldn't
want to use so appliances I'd stay away
from of course they get heavy too much
on shipping really expensive cuffs art
and sewing I think it's a good category
for new sellers a lot of lightweight
products that are at a good price point
automotive you typically I stay away
from there are some restrictions are
talking into the next video baby is a
good one because it's simple beauty and
personal care or okay can you some
products and these are restricted but I
would just go with those for now books I
don't bother CD and vinyl if you don't
bother camera on photo I don't bother
cellphones way too saturated I wouldn't
do anything would do cell phones or cell
phone accessories I don't recommend any
of you to unless you do it right when
the the product launch for example the
iPhone 10 or the F of X when that
launched if you were one of the first
people to get your cases or screen
protectors or whatever that would be a
good idea other than that I'd stay away
from this and I will get saturated very
quickly as soon as that product launches
as well clothing I don't I don't touch
it because of the different sizes people
might give you bad reviews if they don't
like how it fits them or there's too
much to worry about their electronics
too risky because if it doesn't work for
whatever reason we're gonna have higher
returns you're gonna have complaints are
gonna have to deal with you could do
electronics but I just recommend for new
sellers to keep it simple and stay away
from them Christian gourmet food no
let's play my next video health and
household I don't really bother with and
health health and personal care I don't
bother with either those will all be
explained in the next video home and
kitchen I do like home improvement I do
like industrial designs but I don't like
some products are restricted and that'll
be covered as well later on kitchen and
dining is good movies and TV no patio
garden is good office products are good
pet supplies is a good one software no
sports and outdoors is a good one but
sports and outdoors if you do this
though you'll get a lot of clothing
products come up so either you'd want to
exclude those keyword it's like you take
out words like pants hats shirts things
like that if you were gonna do with a
sports and outdoor if you didn't want to
deal with clothing I'm gonna keep it off
right now otherwise there's gonna be too
many search results tools like home
improvement again I it's similar to home
improvement I like it it's good toys and
games right now in queue in corridor for
there are restrictions for new sellers
to sell toys but I'll just choose that
for now just show you guys except me
like that category and then watches are
restricted and video games I do not
bother with so price anything for price
I would say between about 20 and 50
dollars the reason we go 20 on the low
end because we still intend to make
enough money after Amazon fees that were
still being profitable usually making
about 10 dollars per sale is a good
number you
go something as low as like 18 I've seen
some people do 15 personally I think for
any sellers anything around 18 on the
low end up to $50.00 on the high end
there's a good idea
so we'll just go up 18 dollars if you
really want to be creative you could do
something like 17 17 60 or something
like that just because someone might put
$17.99 and they wouldn't see the results
that you see at 1760 so just a little
tip there maximum is $50 because between
or up to $50 is still the impulse buy
range so someone's more likely to buy it
the first time they see it whereas if
you're one of the product that's $300 or
50 or maybe $150 if someone sees that
they might have to take more time to
think about making that purchase so
they're not instantly going to buy it
that's why we go $50 on the high end
fernette this would be how much you're
gonna make after FBA fees per product so
you can't just put them that in here
about $10 I just choose to leave a blank
because I think it's gonna vary it's not
completely accurate rank this would be
your best seller ranking so the closer
they are to one in their ranking the
better they are so a product the ranking
of thank you 100 would be a higher
selling product than a product of the
product that's ranked a thousand but
depending on your category you know
they're different ranks will have
different sales so I don't really bother
with ranked too much just because a
product that is ranked 20,000 could
still be making more money than a
product Sally that's right 10,000 as
long as their if their price is higher
right if they're doing more revenue and
you don't know what the profit margins
are so you could choose to put a rank
usually anything under I think 40,000 is
a good rank but it always does vary from
product to product so I typically leave
that blank for sales this is how many
sales they're actually selling per month
so this is the units sold so usually it
could be something like 200 units sold
is what you're when you want to see per
month so you know how much estimated
revenue you'll be having I choose not to
put anything for sales because I care
more about revenue than the actual sales
so because if you were looking at
revenue I think of it as okay
this product may only sell 100 units but
it makes $10,000 a month where maybe you
can make 500 sales but only make $5,000
a month so I like to just deal with the
revenue instead of the sales but that's
just my personal preference so revenue
maybe I'd like to see anything with a
minimum of $6,000 so then I know if I
had a profit margin of at least 50% that
I can be bringing in $3,000 a month with
this product then reviews.reviews is
very important when it comes to Amazon
FBA one of the most important things
because if a product has too much too
many reviews and you want to go into
that market there's no way you can
overcome a product that's been
dominating the market for two years with
a thousand review but it's just it's not
gonna happen as a new seller you can't
come in and and beat that so reviews you
want to look for products that there's
still high demand so they're selling a
lot of product but the reviews are not
super competitive so what this means is
probably something under around 100
reviews there could be the odd product
that of course has more reviews but you
want to see down the line that all
products in this category have generally
under a certain amount of reviews so for
me I'm gonna choose 100 reviews is the
maximum I want to deal with because I
think 100 reviews is reasonable and
that's something we can catch over time
reading this would be the actual rating
of their review so if they got a
five-star rating if they had a
three-star rating this takes the average
of their all of their reviews and
combined them so what you would want to
do for this is you ideally want to find
products where there's room to improve
so if there's a product and say shirts
basketball and all of the products all
of the best balls have five or five star
reviews it's gonna be hard for you to
come into the new seller with no reviews
and beat them out because people already
seen these products are proven good
products and it'd be hard for them to
say we don't want to choose those and we
want to take a chance on this new
product without any reviews now usually
you want to find something with maybe
three review or three three stars on
average something like that somewhere
over there's room to improve but if I
saw a basketball and maybe my keyword
was basketball and had some sort of
special grip
someone had like a three-star review and
it said the clip isn't strong enough we
should have more grip or the grip wasn't
what I expected you can see that review
and you think I can actually make this
product better and beat that competitor
so now you can go ahead and tell your
manufacturer that you want the grip to
be stronger on that basketball and now
when you have your product in market or
someone were to buy it and you get the
better of you people will be able to see
that and they can see that your product
is better than the competition so you
saw you found somewhere to improve and
you've improved it making your listing
more desirable so I'm just gonna go from
here and maximum I'll just say four
stars so there's still a little room for
improvement not a ton but give us
something to work with to to become a
more dominant product in that category
as for weight as a new seller we usually
want something that's maximum two pounds
just because the shipping cost and the
FBA fees are higher when we're dealing
with a heavier product so two pounds on
the maximum number of sellers ideally
you don't you want a good number of
sellers just so you know that there's a
demand for the product if multiple
people are selling that and they're all
doing decent or or pretty well you know
that it's there's the demand there
there's only a couple sellers you might
want to stay away from it if there's
only like one or one seller there might
be a patent on the product or something
like that so you want to stay away but
number sellers I just usually leave that
blank just because I like to explore and
see you see what's out there
listing quality so based on this
algorithm here they can actually
determine what the listing quality is
based on your pictures your description
all of that so one thing we really focus
on doing when we're private labeling a
product is building a listing that
really engages people that's a lot
stronger than some of these Chinese
sellers or other people in Amazon who
don't know how to build an effective
listing so what Java Scout does it takes
their algorithm and it makes these not a
rating between 1 and 100 so based on
those you can see who has a good listing
if someone's selling $10,000 to $10,000
a month and they only have a vague 70
out of 100 listing there's a ton of room
for improvement and you can make that
listing better and if you can make that
listing better there's a good chance
customers will go to you instead of your
competitor if you have a good product
and your listing stands up so listing
quality let's just do maximum of let's
say 70 just cuz so and then on the side
here you can see you have their standard
size products or oversize when you're
doing Amazon as a beginner you're like I
said similar to the weight thing you'd
want to be doing a product as a standard
size and then for sellers you can see
who is selling it so fulfilled by Amazon
which is what you're doing which would
be someone shifted to the Amazon
warehouse and the amulet warehouse ships
it to the customer so we'd want to see
who's doing that fulfillment by merchant
is someone if I had the product instead
of shipping to the Amazon warehouse I
would just ship it directly to the
customer and you would want to look at
this as an opportunity to peep past
these people because if you're using
Amazon service you do have a slight
advantage in their algorithm and they do
prefer the fulfilled by Amazon products
so if someone who's doing really good
fulfill by filling by merchants you can
actually have a good opportunity to pass
them as long as they're not like years
ahead of you and they're not having
crazy reviews crazy sales all that and
then lastly of course there's Amazon so
some people do like this I personally
actually am interested in products sold
by Amazon because Amazon knows what's
selling so it's sort of interesting
model but then another way to look at it
is you don't want to mess with Amazon
because they are Amazon out selling on
their own platform usually they'll win
but that's something a little bit more
advanced so in this video I'm not gonna
go over that for now I just recommend as
new sellers to stay away from Amazon and
then here you can do keywords so if you
want to search a specific keyword like
you only wanted to see lights you could
put that in here or if you want to
exclude keywords like around Halloween I
want to exclude all the Halloween
decorations from coming up so I just
excluded Halloween here and then I
didn't have to worry about those popping
up online on my search results and then
here you can see the different
search results per page so I said it's
200 so you can see the maximum and then
you just hit search and here you can see
all of the different results like these
products would definitely get removed
soon they're calling the glass bottle
water bubblers but for some reason I
don't think Amazon likes glass water
Vogler's those will eventually be
removed but this is typically what it
will look like when you run the product
database
